ALBERT PAUL PIERSON
(ABE)
1935-2023
It is with deep regret that our family announces the sudden passing of our much-loved grandpa, father, brother and uncle, Albert Pierson on June 2, 2023. He passed away suddenly in front of his home in Winnipeg, Manitoba at the age of 87. He did what he wanted up until his last breath, which we know he is proud of.
Left to cherish Abe’s memory and re-tell his many great stories are his two sons, Jamie and Len (Laurie), two grandchildren, Tiffannie and Cody (Lisa), brother Dennis and his sister Sis, nieces and nephews, and many old friends. He was predeceased by his wife Shirley, parents and brother Reg.
Abe had quite an exciting life. He was an avid lacrosse player from a young age and developed a deep and lasting love for the game. He went on to coach many young talents, including both of his sons, from 1960-1988. He was inducted into the Manitoba Lacrosse Hall of Fame in 2018 in recognition of the many championships he won and lives he touched.
Another source of immense pride for Albert was his career as a printer at Pollard Banknote. Starting as a delivery boy, he worked his way up to apprentice and then a printer. He retired in 1993 but he never stopped telling the stories about the job he loved.
Anyone who knew Abe knows he loved to ride his motorcycle and tell stories. After he retired, he went on many trips across Canada, the US and even Mexico on his motorcycle with friends or his late wife Shirley. When he wasn’t far from home on his bike, he was taking day trips to a house he bought in Ashern, MB, or anywhere, just to be out on the highway. He rode his motorcycle into his 80’s, and it brought him great joy through all those years.
We will miss Abe’s peppy spirit and personality, and especially his great stories. He was a great man, who left a lasting impression on those who knew him. He’s one of those special people in our lives, who will never leave us, even after he’s gone.
A celebration of life will be held for both Abe and Shirley in July.
Your memory lives on forever in our hearts, may you now rest in peace.
Until we meet again
