ALEXANDER GLATZ

In loving memory of Alexander Glatz, formerly of Dryden, Ontario, who passed away in Winnipeg, Manitoba on July 29th, 2024.

He is survived by his wife, Martha, and their three children, six grandchildren and three great-children: Daughter Helen, grandson Stefan (Kim), and great-granddaughters Emilia, Delilah and Scarlett, and grandson Lucas (Dana); Daughter Doreen (Gary), granddaughter Jamie (Lukas), and granddaughter Lauren; Son Paul (Stephanie), grandson Zander, and grandson Reid.

Alexander was born to Franz and Aloisia Glatz on November 6, 1931, on their farm in Austria. He was the youngest of ten children. He emigrated to Canada in 1954. With brief employment in Edmonton, Alberta and Pine Falls, Manitoba, he moved to Dryden to work at the Dryden Paper Company. In 1961, he joined the Forestry Department as a scaler where he remained until his early retirement in 1989 as a Senior Tech 1 with the Ministry of Natural Resources. After retirement, he continued on with his lifelong interest in prospecting. He had been a member of the Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada, the Ontario Prospectors Association, and the Northwestern Ontario Prospectors Association, from whom he received a Lifetime Achievement Award in 2006.

Alexander and Martha lived on Park Crescent in Dryden from 1964 to 2023, during which time they built lifelong friendships with many friends in the community whom they dearly missed when they moved to Winnipeg. They loved to travel and spend time outdoors, especially fishing and gardening, or at their cabin on Eagle Lake. As dedicated grandparents, they hosted many family holidays and fishing trips, and enjoyed travelling across Western Canada to celebrate holidays, and attend special events, with their children and grandchildren.

Cremation has taken place. A private family service is planned, with interment to follow at Chapel Lawn Cemetery, Winnipeg, Manitoba.
