To Valerie and Sandy, and the greater Jelliff family my thoughts are with you at this time. Your father was a wonderful man. He was a loyal friend to me and the Kelley family for the past 46 years. That’s a long time and I may not have the count quite right but the Mercury Bay that we grew up on was a place where hard working principled people lived and raised their children. People like your father. We are influenced by many things as we grow, and observing that your parents never ceased to help the neighbors around them sticks in my mind. Al, as you all, supported my family in the time of our greatest need and for that I am ever thankful. Al was someone I turned to for assistance as a young man and oft sought to visit upon return trips to Winnipeg. He was there to speak at my wedding and there to see my children when I came to visit. As I recall it was your family’s tradition to cross the palm of a new baby with silver and I can still picture your mother doing that with my son, Al of course looking on. Your dad was the salt of the earth, generous, helpful, and unwavering. I am sad that he has passed and wish that you can all revel in the happy memories of the lives that you shared together.
