ALLAN RICHARD GREENWOOD
It is with great sadness that the family of Allan Richard Greenwood announces the sudden passing of a beloved husband, father, son, brother, nephew, cousin and friend. Allan was taken from us all too soon at the age of 47 years, accidentally on Saturday, September 2, 2017 in Richer, Manitoba. Left to mourn Allan’s passing are his loving wife of 17 years Michele and two beautiful daughters, Savanna and Cheyenne; his mother Bernie Greenwood; father Richard (Bob) Greenwood; his best friend and brother Chris (Melissa) Greenwood and nephews Zachary and Dawson. Also remaining to cherish his memory are his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Doreen and John Ducharme; brother-in-law Daryl (Deleen) and niece Kyli and nephew Ayden; brother-in-law Byron (Suzanne) and nephew Carter; brother-in-law Gary (Christina) and nephew Brenden and niece Adriana. He also leaves to mourn his aunts and uncles, Garry (Carmen), Margo (Alf), Eric (Marylin) and Glenda-Lee (Rocky); cousin Ashtyn Boyda, who he thought of as a “third daughter”, as well as numerous cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his grandparents, Walter and Peggy Allan and Thomas and Nettie Greenwood; his aunt Bev Allan, Aunt Brenda and uncle Lawrence Klapprat. Allan was born on March 4, 1970 in Dauphin where he spent much of his youth, later living in Saskatoon, Regina and Winnipeg. Al worked at MJ roofing for over 25 years and has many close friends there. He and Michele were married on March 24, 2000 and were thrilled with the birth of their girls Savanna in 2000 and Cheyenne in 2003. Al grew up loving the outdoors – biking, camping and fishing. He loved to spend time at his home away from home, Cripple Creek Campground. He has many friends from Cripple Creek Campground who he loved to spend time with. He was known as ‘Happy Al’ and was famous for his “Happy Friday” greeting. Al enjoyed watching his girls in school events, playing ringette and hockey over the years, as well as watching his nieces and nephews. He could always be heard cheering his girls on from the stands and was well known as a passionate fan! He also enjoyed following the local teams, the Winnipeg Jets and Winnipeg Blue Bombers, and took in a game whenever he could. Al loved his girls and would always enjoy spending quality time with them together or separately. Al and Savanna shared an eclectic taste in music from AC/DC to country music and recently had a father/daughter date at Phantom of the Opera. Cheyenne would enjoy the quieter things in nature with her dad, like collecting rocks or picking flowers. Cheyenne and Al also shared a love for sushi and oysters and would enjoy quiet dinners together on father/daughter dates. Cheyenne and Al were both morning people and would share special moments each morning as they would prepare for their day. Al loved his girls and was so very proud of the beautiful young women they have become. Al enjoyed the simple things in life. He was always amazed by the beauty of nature. He would stop along the highway to take a picture of a wildflower. He would go out at night and sit for hours watching the stars. Al and Michele enjoyed going out for dinner and spending time with friends and family, whether it involved playing cards or hanging out around a bonfire. Al was always willing to lend a hand. He would very often shovel the neighbor’s sidewalks or mow their grass in the summer. He loved to make people laugh. He would do outlandish things in order to get a laugh or brighten up someone’s day. People loved to be with Al, he made friends everywhere he went, he always left a lasting impression! He put people’s needs before his own without a second thought, such as when he and his brother Chris saved someone’s family dog from a house fire in 2005. He was a strong, caring, forgiving man who was always devoted to his family. Al loved and cherished the people he was surrounded by and nothing made him happier than bringing smiles to the faces of those dearest to him. We were honored and blessed to have him as a part of our family. A life cut short way too soon. Love you Al. Rest in Peace. In compliance with Al’s wishes, no formal Funeral Service will be held. A Come and Go Celebration of Allan’s life will be held on Saturday, September 16, 2017 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in Wojcik’s Funeral Chapel, 1020 Main Street at Manitoba Avenue, Winnipeg. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association and/or Epilepsy and Seizure Association of Manitoba.
