ALLEN WAYNE YOST
Allen Yost, born on November 27, 1946, passed away on Wednesday, September 13, 2017 at the age of 70. His quiet contemplation often resulted in profound and unique insights with family, friends and colleagues. His brilliant mind, huge heart and quick wit will be missed by all who loved him. Allen attended Holy Cross Elementary School and St. Paul’s High School. He earned his Bachelor of Science Degree (Gold Medalist) and his Bachelor of Law Degree from the University of Manitoba. His post-graduate career path started in 1969 at the University of Manitoba in the Computer Centre. Several years later, Allen was pivotal in the formation of the AESES organization. Allen was then employed with the law firms Schwartz McJanet and Corne and Corne. He returned to the University of Manitoba in various capacities, completing his career in the Human Resources Department in 2008. After retirement, Allen continued part time employment with the Federal Government as an adjudicator. In his leisure time, Allen enjoyed; archery, bowling, cribbage, mahjong, fine dining and leading guided “Tours of Scotland”. His fifteen minutes of fame came in 1983 as a contestant on The Wheel of Fortune earning an interesting array of prizes. Allen will be missed dearly by his beloved wife Brenda (Foster) whom he married in 1971. Allen and Brenda enjoyed entertaining friends and family, evenings at the theatre and the experiences afforded to them through Allen’s membership with Mensa, the Blue Sky Club and the Opimian Society. He will also be missed by; his brother Roger (Kathy) and family, Aunt Muriel Yost, in-laws Sheila Stanley (David) and family and Kenneth Foster (Susan). He was predeceased by his parents Gustav and Yvonne Yost and in-laws Douglas and Theresa Foster. Funeral Liturgy will be Celebrated on Friday, September 22, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. in Holy Cross Roman Catholic Church, 252 Dubuc Street, Winnipeg, with Rev. Fr. Gary Killen, presiding. Friends and family are invited to share fond memories of Allen during the ceremony. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba or to the Manitoba Lung Association.
