Alvin Klause

May 16, 1924 - September 12, 2016

ALVIN JAMES KLAUSE

Al was born in Springside, Saskatchewan on May 16, 1924 and passed away peacefully in his sleep at the Riverview Health Centre on Monday, September 12, 2016, at the age of 92 years.
Remaining to cherish Al’s memory are his wife Muriel (Lambert) of 68 years; daughter Yvonne (Len) Campbell, their two children and five grandchildren; son Jim (Linda), their four children, 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild; daughter Cynthia (David) Bestland, and their two children and one grandchild. Al was very proud of being a great great-grandfather to Ryder. He was predeceased by his brother Kenneth, and his sister Gladi Smith. Al enjoyed a lovely celebration of his 68th wedding anniversary this past August 2016 with his wife Muriel and family.    Al was born in to a farming family but after the war, he went to Saskatoon, Saskatchewan to take a blueprinting and carpentry course. Soon after, he met Muriel and they settled in Swan River, Manitoba where they raised their three children. Al worked in the construction industry all of his life; starting in Swan River, to Flin Flon and Churchill. Al and Muriel eventually moved to Winnipeg where he worked for PCL and Carter Construction for many years. At an age when most men were retiring, Al freelanced as a project coordinator. He ended his career working on projects for Bob Cunningham and Bruce Miltenberg until the age of 83.    Al kept a very sharp mind until the end. He enjoyed reading, football, baseball, fishing, using his computer and taking a keen interest in his children and grandchildren’s careers. He spent much time regaling the family with stories of the “olden days”. Music was always playing in the background as he loved music. Al spent many years as a member of the Elks Club. Al and Muriel enjoyed travelling to Mexico, USA and throughout Canada in their motor home.     A Funeral Service will be held for Al at a later date.    The family appreciates the excellent care that Al received at the Riverview Health Centre.    In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Riverview Health Centre, One Morley Avenue, Winnipeg, MB, R3L 2P4 or the Heart and Stroke Foundation, 6 Donald Street, Suite 200 Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3L 0K6.   Wojcik’s Funeral Chapels & Crematorium, Winnipeg, 1020 Main Street, 204.586.8668 www.wojciksfuneralchapel.com
