I have such good memories of Bruce and Ken and the rest of the gang from high school: friday night parties, football games, winning the City championship, and goofing around in class. I think he brought in a TV once so that we could watch a Canada/Russia hockey game! A few years ago, I was pleasantly surprised when we ran into each other at Polo Park and he made a point of introducing me to his son Ty and to ask about my family. I didn't think he'd remember me...but he did and it was nice catching up. RIP my friend; you did pass away much too soon. My condolences to Kelly and the entire Shelest family.

Still can't believe that we won't see Bruce jogging by in 40 below weather! The street will not be the same without him. I can't count the times when Bruce rushed over to help...many times it involved ladders, upset dogs or car problems. Didn't daunt him though...he just waded in and got the job done. He was that kind of steadfast and loyal friend and neighbour. I know his strength of character will go on in his children and precious little grandson, Danny. Godspeed, Bruce.

Gordon Bell in the 70s - how could you not know the Shelest brothers? My condolences to all the family and close friends. I only knew Bruce in school as so often happens our paths went different ways. He was far too young to be taken and we should all remember that life is just too short to put off calling that old friend. Do it now! Jocelyn

Like Joseph, the last time I saw Bruce was at Eatons, with him sharing his (ultimately successful) dream of joining the police force. Though it has been around 30 years since I saw him last, Bruce was the kind of guy who affected those around him in such a manner that I often thought of him and reminisced about the fun times together. Deeply saddened to hear the news. You will always be in my heart, Bruce. Condolences to the family

I'm deeply saddened by this news. I lived down the street from Bruce and Kenny in the 60's/70's and have very fond memories of our time at Gordon Bell High School. Whether it was just goofing in the study carrels in the third floor hallway, or playing touch football at Vimy Ridge Park, it was always more interesting when the Shelest brothers were involved. My favorite memory has to be winning the high school football championship at the Winnipeg Stadium in 1974...with Bruce as our QB, there was no way we could lose(having Kenny on the D-line didn't hurt either). The last time I ran into Bruce was well over two, maybe even three, decades ago when he was working security at Eaton's. He told me he was married, to Kelly, and that he was planning to join the police force some day. It was really great catching up with him that day, and I assumed that I'd probably run into him again some time down the road... My sincerest sympathy to Bruce's wife Kelly, brother Kenny and the Shelest family.

I remember Bruce from our dsys of playing hockey against each other. He was one of if not the toughest guys in the league to play against. Off the ice he was a true gentleman a gentle giant. Our paths crossed in our jobs and it was always a pleasure to stop and chat. Rest in peace big fella you will be missed...!

I was lucky enough to help train him as a rookie, partner with him downtown and then have him on my shift several years ago. No matter the situation, on the street or in the station, I knew he had my back. And oh what a character! Bellissima Bruce, it was an honour.

Bruce was in my very first teaching class. I remember stopping in front of his home while walking to my car and playing ball hockey with him and Ken. Over the years I would run into Bruce in the community and we would share a joke or two about the old days. Bruce you were truly one of the good guys and I will miss you.

My memories of Bruce are that of a good friend, through elementary and high school. We didn't keep in touch as adults, but my experiences with Bruce while growing up, provided stories that are fondly reminisced with pride and humour with old friends, and with curiosity by our kids.My best wishes for the family.

Kelly, I have so many amazing memeories of you and Bruce...way back to the day you guys were married, (wedding ring in the pizza). I remember when he studied so hard to be a cop and then made it. I remember everytime I came over he would have one story after another about this situation or that he encountered 'on the job'. Everyone grew up so fast.....I think for awhile I ended up seeing Taylor at the corner store more then I would see you guys. You know I never felt I got over to see you guys enough and 1 day ran into the next, and before you knew it....it's several years later. Kelly....you, Taylor and Jordan are in my thougths and prayers. Talk to you again soon.Much Love, Anita
