Calvin Hewitt

July 26, 1952 - August 3, 2017

CALVIN (CAL) GUS HEWITT
July 26, 1952 – August 3, 2017

Peacefully, on Thursday, August 3, 2017 at the Health Sciences Centre, Cal quietly slipped away to a better place, at the age of 65 years.   Left to forever cherish Cal’s memory are his mother Margaret Hewitt; sisters Carolyn Sigfusson and Pam Gorman (Kelly); brother-in-law Robert; nephews Mike Sigfusson and Matt Sigfusson (Sam and children Jack and Lucy) as well as niece Amy Sigfusson. He was predeceased by his father Norm in 1981.    Cal grew up in St. James and attended St. Paul’s High School and Silver Heights Collegiate. He continued his education at Red River Community College where he became certified as a Journeyperson Painter and Decorator. He enjoyed transforming homes and business spaces and always took immense pride in his work. Cal was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion #1 and felt privileged to put on his uniform and carry the flag in Remembrance Day Parades. Although he lived a life of his own, Cal looked forward to spending Christmas Day with his family every year. It was his opportunity to share “tall tales” with the kids and to watch them grow into adults. His love for them was undeniable. He always went home with a full belly and heart…and leftovers to be shared with his less fortunate friends. Perhaps the happiest years of Cal’s life were devoted to helping his dad build the family cabin at Bird Lake in the late 60’s. Many summers were spent bonding over beverages while “discussing” the next project to tackle. Anyone who signed up to help throughout those years is sure to have a hilarious memory of their “work” weekend. Those memories are evident in and around the cabin to this day and the stories will continue to be shared with future generations. We know Norm and Cal are reliving those moments now, as they watch over us. May they rest in peace together.   A private family Service will be held at a later date.   We would like to acknowledge all of Cal’s caregivers and the staff at HSC who assisted in managing his declining health over the past few years. Also, a special thank you to Cal’s long-time buddy, Dave Leronowich, for being available to him and the family through the final difficult days.    Wojcik’s Funeral Chapels & Crematoriums, Winnipeg, 2157 Portage Avenue, 204.897.4665 www.wojciksfuneralchapel.com
