I was shocked at Fred's passing. We served together at Penhold Alberta and Air Command HQ here in Winnipeg. There was always a good laugh to be had when we all got together. We had wonderful times in Penhold with your Mom. I know Fred was crushed by her passing. He was a champion badminton player going to small-base and National tournaments. Fred was an instructor in the FPS-27 school and a top-notch technician. He will be missed by so many. He was one of the very best.

Fred was so loved by his friends and liked by everyone he met. I had the pleasure of playing together on my Wednesday league last year and this year. We have also travelled together to tournaments. We played together in Nanaimo and Penticton. We were about to go in February again to Penticton. The remaining of us on that team are women and we've renamed our team FRED'S ANGELS. Fred was a super helpful friend. Anything you needed he was there. All he would say is, "That'll be 60 bucks!" I keep hearing him say that since his passing. I run a singles league and the summer was my first time running it. The first week was a bit crazy and I was nervous about doing it. I didn't ask for any help but he just showed up to help me. The first night was super crazy and he just showed up and took over helping, teaching rules, getting people started. Wow I was appreciative. I also travel to many tournaments. He followed along in the online draw and would text encouragement before all my matches. During the last Vegas one, the app allows you to see the scores of the games as they are happening. He was watching the whole time and would send me texts during my matches between the games. Things like, "Wow that was a nail biter" or "Only 2 more and you got this." It made me feel much less lonely. I'm glad I was able to tell him how much I appreciated that. I'm so sorry for your loss. Fred is very very missed.

I was saddened to hear of Fred's passing. For the last 6 or 7 years Fred became a fixture in the Aactive pool League. He was a player on many teams, but what I remember most was the time he spent volunteering as a referee at our year end playoffs and in Edmonton at the WCVNEA Championships. I enjoyed hos visits to the office to talk rules and league goings on. He was a good man. Rest easy my friend.

I first met Fred approximately 8 years ago when I was practicing pool at Crazy 8 Billiards and he asked if he could play some with me. I hated practicing by myself, so I thanked him for joining me. We played for 2 or 3 hours where I found out he was retired from the military and we discussed his exemplary career. We discussed him joining the pool league and he inquired about refereeing as he had found out through our conversation that I had been one for many years. I advised him to contact the league office. I went to many tournaments with Fred and had many more conversations with him over the years and you would be hard pressed to find a nicer man. Especially when I had heart problems and I was in the hospital. Rest in peace my dear friend, you will be greatly missed by all who knew you.
