CHRISTINE DUYKERS

(nee CHARTRAND)

February 3, 1948 – August 17, 2024

Mary Christine Duykers (nee Chartrand) made her final transition to the promised land in the early morning of August 17th, 2024, in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

Christine was the beloved daughter of the late Raymond Chartrand and Lizzie Sinclair. She leaves behind her loving husband, Ron Duykers; her son, Ron Jr. and his wife, Angie; her three grandchildren, Brittanee, Ashlee, and Marcus; her brother, Earl and her two sisters, Pearl and Della. Christine is also mourned by her many cherished nephews, nieces, cousins and in-laws.

Christine was born in Brandon, Manitoba and later moved to Winnipeg, where she married her husband, Ron Duykers. Together they had two children, Ron Jr and Christopher. She dedicated forty years as a compassionate healthcare aid at Misericordia Hospital. After retiring, Christine spent her days enjoying simple pleasures:

Visiting the dog park, sipping tea, thrifting, and spending time with family and friends.

Christine was a kind-hearted, energetic, and strong woman. She was a natural conversationalist, always ready with a cheerful “Hello! What are you doing?”. She had a deep love for debates, animals, berry picking, the feel and sound of nature, dancing and music, Christmas, and above all, her grandchildren. Many evenings were spent with friends in conversation, and countless hours with her grandchildren playing cards, hosting tea parties, enjoying board games, and working on puzzles.

In her later years, Christine often reminisced about Duck Bay and her beloved Kookum. It is comforting to know she is now reunited with so many of her loved ones who had long awaited her, including her fur-baby Cagney, her deeply missed son Christopher, and her brother Peter.

Christine, your young and fierce spirit will be deeply missed here on earth. You’ve left an imprint on all our hearts, and we will always remember you for your beautiful smile, contagious laugh, and generous ways.

Thank you for being the best wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend.

Service will take place Thursday, August 29, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. at St. John XXIII Roman Catholic Church, 3390 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg, Manitoba. The viewing will be at 9:45 a.m.

“Until we meet again to enjoy all of your favorite things. We love you more than the big blue sky.”
