On April 11, 1934 Cornie was born in the Netherlands, immigrating to Manitoba in 1952 with his entire family. He and Betsie married in 1959, raising their children in Winnipeg. They spent many happy family holidays and weekends travelling and camping in Manitoba, Ontario and in the States. In retirement, Cornie and Betsie moved to Paradise Village where they spent 12 happy years. Cornie spent much time in their garden and in his garage doing his beloved woodworking. After Betsie passed away, he moved to Winnipeg in 2004.
Cornie was a journeyman electrician, who worked up north on the DEW-Line, in Lynn Lake and Gillam and various other northern communities, as well as in the USA. He was general foreman for many projects throughout Manitoba and Winnipeg, including the Grace Hospital, Kildonan Place and St. Vital Centre.
In 2005, Cornie met and married Joy Funk and they were blessed with ten happy years together. They travelled to his hometown of Den Hoorn, Delft in 2006 and 2007, where he re-connected with relatives and his very special childhood friend, Hans.
Despite failing health, Cornie loved to spend his time with family and friends at holiday and birthday celebrations. He was full of fun, loved to tease and play jokes, and kept his sense of humour until the very end.
