DEAN WADE YURKIW
Suddenly and tragically, on Friday August 4, 2017 at the age of 50 years, Dean was taken from us. Left to cherish Dean’s memory are his mother and father, Ed and Vicky Yurkiw; brother David (Doris); sister Susan (Dave) along with nephew Daniel and nieces, Amanda, Savannah and Sydney. In addition, he is survived by Aunties Anna, Jean, Sylvia and numerous cousins across the country. Dean was born in Yorkton, SK and later attended school in Roblin and Dauphin, MB. Following his school years, he travelled to Vancouver and Seattle before settling down in Winnipeg. He loved music and preferred to spend his time, alone, with head phones on – spinning the discs and mixing dance tunes. He resided at the Kildonan Hotel where Dean had been employed for many years, performing DJ service and other maintenance duties. He had also previously worked casually at the MTS Centre doing set up and lighting for many concerts, building a collection of t-shirts from the shows he worked. The highlight for Dean was travelling back home to Vancouver to work the Winter Olympic closing ceremonies at BC Place. Dean struggled with various health issues and was no stranger to tough times. He faced several challenges throughout his life and all of those who worked with him know that he never asked for or expected much in life. He enjoyed biking around town and through the park. On Saturday August 12, 2017 Dean’s Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. in Wojcik’s Funeral Chapel, 1020 Main Street at Manitoba Avenue. All are welcome to attend. The family wishes to thank everyone who helped Dean over the years, especially Ron and Linda, and all his work family at the hotel. Anyone wishing to make a donation in Dean’s name is asked to contact the family for charity information. I do not ask to walk smooth paths nor bear an easy load.
I pray for strength and fortitude to climb the rock-strewn road.
