I am writing this note on behalf of two of us that worked at the grocery store your dad (and mom) shopped at almost daily. We missed your dad after a few days of not seeing him. They were a special couple inside and out, that always made time to chat with us and let us know how they were. We miss them both. Our deepest sympathy to your entire family. My deepest sympathy. I have only the fondest memories of Rev. Thornton who I knew through Greenfield Park United Church. His ease with children and his enjoyment of them made the church a much brighter place. I think about the Easter egg hunts every year. Going to church was both a spiritual journey and FUN. Rev. Thornton was there for me during my darkest days following a divorce, never judgmental and only supportive. He introduced me to the best cheese shop anywhere in St. Lambert. His legacy will continue.

We are also saddened by the death of Denis. We saw him last in Sept & Oct when we biked to his place from River Heights and noticed how the cancer was debilitating him. We first met him and Cathy in God's Narrows when they hosted and initiated us to succeed them as the ministerial couple. They were deeply concerned with the welfare and of the people and enjoyed their friendship. They took us to God's River for the dedication of a new chapel before it had been officially approved by the Church and sometimes laughed about our 'transgression'. We were also connected by the MS two of their children and one of ours developed after their earliest years in the God's Lake United Church manse. Peace be with you and rejoice in the great examples of their love and service. 204-488 3283
