DENNIS (DENNY) BROWN
It comes with a heavy heart to announce the sudden passing of Dennis (Denny) Brown Thursday July 20th, 2023 at Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg, MB.
Dad was born in Balmoral, MB on the 13th of March 1929. He was the eldest son to Jack and Irene Brown. Dad grew up on the farm and developed a strong work ethic. In his younger days, Dad left home to work in the mines in Ontario. He later went on to serve his country in Korea, under B squadron of the Lord Strathcona Horse. When he returned from Korea, he later joined the Army Reserves serving with the Royal Winnipeg Rifles. He then spent over thirty-five years with the Winnipeg Fire Department where he rose to the rank of Captain. He was assigned many fire halls in his career and eventually retired while at Station 20, on Banting Drive. Dad was a member of the Army, Navy & Airforce 283 for more than 50 years.
Over the years, Dad travelled the world with his wife, family and friends, visiting many different places. He loved spending time in the summer at the cabin with his wife Gladys at Glen Bay, Manitoba and getting in as many golf games in has he could every year. Every September, he enjoyed hosting his family at the lake for the annual September Long Weekend (GBMW) horseshoe tournament and other events.
Left to mourn this great loss are his wife Gladys (nee Copp), his sons Jack (Shawn), Glenn and Mark; his grandchildren Ryan (Vera), Janine (Allan), Tabatha (Drew), Tabatha (Jeremy) and Crystal; seven great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren; his brother Garry and sister Carrol. Brother-in-laws Richard Copp, Robert Copp and Fred Copp, and Sister-in-laws Janet Meacham, Eleanor Power and Norine Crouch, along with his Aunt Alice, many nieces, nephews, family members and friends.
Dad was predeceased by his sister Elaine Critchley and brother-law Bill and his brother-law-in Cliff Perrun.
A celebration of life will be held at the Army, Navy and Airforce Unit 283 at, 3584 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg, MB from 1-3 PM on Thursday, 3 August 2023.
A private interment will take place at Chapel Lawn Cemetery prior to the celebration of life.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Manitoba Heart and Stroke Foundation.
