DOREEN ELLA BOYD On Thursday, January 10, 2013, Doreen’s Funeral Service was held at 1:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Memories in Wojcik’s Funeral Chapel, 2157 Portage Avenue at Sharp Boulevard.Publish Date: Jan 12, 2013DOREEN ELLA BOYD Peacefully after a long and courageous battle Doreen Ella Boyd passed away on Friday, January 4, 2013 at the age of 83 years. Left to forever cherish Doreen’s memory are her husband Al; daughters Susan Pitman (Ken); Kimm Shipley (Lance); grandchildren Shaun Stephen (Angie), Jennifer Bjarnarson (Dean) Alyson (Chris) Shipley; great-grandchildren, Emily and Alyssa Bjarnarson; Angie’s boys, Nick and Ben; several nieces; nephews; cousins; and sisters June Dawson of Vancouver and Marlene Reimer of New Zealand. She was predeceased by her mother in 1998 and brother Bill 2012. Doreen was born May 29, 1929 in Manitou, Manitoba to Alexander and Charlotte Gemmel. She was the oldest of 4 children; sisters June, Marlene, and brother William. Doreen moved to Winnipeg to finish high school at Kelvin High. She helped care for her younger siblings while her mother attended night school. Upon graduation she worked at Manitoba Medical where she formed many long lasting friendships; many over 60 years. On February 26, 1949 Doreen married Al Boyd and they celebrated 63 years of marriage in 2012. Doreen reentered the work force full time in 1974 at Assiniboine Clinic where she again formed many friendships. On Thursday, January 10, 2013 Doreen’s Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Memories in Wojcik’s Funeral Chapel, 2157 Portage Avenue at Sharp Boulevard.
