DOREEN FOGG (nee CUMMINGS)
On Saturday, September 16, 2017, Doreen passed away peacefully at West Park Manor.             Remaining to cherish Doreen’s memory are her daughter Susan (Stewart Halper) of Winnipeg; granddaughter Jill Kasian (Jonathan Dorthe) of Montreal; daughter-in-law Maureen Richardson of Schomberg, Ontario; grandsons, Gordon Fogg of Winnipeg and Sean Fogg (Vivian Millard) of Nobleton, Ontario, as well as great-grandchildren, Margot and Nellie Dorthe and Nathan Fogg. She was predeceased by her beloved siblings, Eileen Fuller, Thelma Zagrodney and Eldon, Errol, Lorne, Orville and Edwin Cummings; her husband Gordon and son Gordon.           Doreen was born on the family homestead near Eston, Saskatchewan to Frank and Mary Cummings. She attended Cascaden School, a one-room schoolhouse with her seven brothers and sisters. At 14, she moved to Eston to attend high school, helping with child care and housework for her board. Doreen graduated from St. Paul’s Hospital School of Nursing in Saskatoon in the class of 1945. She made life-long friendships with her nursing sisters who continued to call each other by their last names. In training, the nuns insisted their hands were never idle. Doreen and her dear friend Isobel wrote letters, something that bonded them throughout their lives. Upon graduation, Doreen moved to Winnipeg and worked at Deer Lodge Hospital where she met Gordon and they were married in 1947. Gordon and Doreen raised two children, Gordon and Susan. Doreen was an excellent seamstress, gardener and baker. She volunteered in her community and canvassed for many charities. She returned to nursing as her children got older, working at St. Boniface Hospital. Doreen loved surgical nursing and worked for many years on 2B, EENT. She moved to Edmonton in 1980 and enjoyed the boom of the city and the success of the Oilers. She was a loyal season ticket holder. In the 1990s, she spent time with her children and their families as her health began to fail. She loved her grandchildren immensely and spent hours with them playing, creating crafts and baking. Doreen had an amazing ability to engage anyone in conversation and she never lost her sociability.             In compliance with Doreen’s wishes, no formal Funeral Service will be held.
