Doris Krishka

June 7, 1930 - September 18, 2016

DORIS KRISHKA (nee KAPKEY)
June 7, 1930 – September 18, 2016
It is with broken hearts and deepest sorrow that the family of Doris Krishka announces her passing on Sunday, September 18, 2016 at her residence. Mom was 86 years old.   Left to lovingly remember Mom are her children, Luba (Romeo), Don (Charlene), Rick (Shelagh), Judy (Wayne) and John (Rhonda); 15 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Doris also leaves to mourn sisters, Sadie Kosowan and Sophie (Nestor) Sandul; as well as numerous extended family members. She was predeceased by her eldest son Ron in 2007; her parents; four brothers; and two sisters.   On June 7, 1930 Doris was born in Gardenton, Manitoba. This is where she married and started building our family. They later moved to Winnipeg, extended the family, and put down the roots which kept us all here. Doris was employed with Northern Telecom until an injury forced her early retirement. In her later years, Mom moved back to the country where she enjoyed old friends and family, the fresh air, wide open spaces, and security of small town living. Only in the last few years were we able to convince her to come back where we could have her close and spend more time together. Mom was an incredibly strong and determined lady. Fiercely independent and living on her own, as she would have wanted, until the very end. Mom will be remembered by many for her great sense of humour, and her unending desire to care for those that she loved so much, making sure we all had plenty of perogies, holubchi, cake, and other goodies to eat.   It is difficult to imagine how life will be without Mom. We can only hope that the incredible strength and ability to accept what comes, that she has demonstrated through the years, helps to carry us through.   A celebration of Doris’s life will be held on Friday, September 23, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. in Silver Heights United Church, 199 Garrioch Avenue @ Mount Royal Road, Winnipeg, with Rev. Don McIntyre, clergy. A private Interment will be held at a later date.    In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice. Wojcik’s Funeral Chapels & Crematoriums, Winnipeg, 2157 Portage Avenue, 204.897.4665 www.wojciksfuneralchapel.com
