DOROTHY ELIZABETH GLORY THOM
Peacefully on March 28, 2022, at Grace Hospital, Mom passed away after suffering a brief illness and a stroke.
Mom was predeceased by her parents, Margaret and Hiram Cooper, her husband of 52 years and love of her life, Wilfred Thom, her second husband Culver Warren, and brother and sister-in-law Sonny and Hazel West.
Left to mourn her loss are her daughter Sharon (Terry), son Terry (Cathleen), beloved grandchildren Allyson (Mike), Kara and Madelyn, and cherished great grandson, Henry. She was anxiously awaiting the birth of her newest great grandchild. She will be lovingly remembered by her nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She adored her bird Cody, and all the birds that came before, but no one came before her grandchildren in her heart. The girls were her heart and soul, and there was never a missed opportunity for Bubbie to brag about them.
Mom was born and raised in Winnipeg where she met and married Dad. They moved to St. James in 1960 where she continued to live until she passed. Mom made everyone in her life feel special and important. She was interested in so many things; she loved to read, roller skate, teach her bird to talk, lead Girl Guides, and entertain her many friends.
One of Mom’s favorite things was her lifelong joy of being a Brownie leader. She was a Brownie leader for over 50 years, and was awarded the Queen Elizabeth II Golden Jubilee Medal in 2002, for her outstanding contributions to Girl Guides of Canada. Her role in helping to shape lives meant so much to her.
Mom loved traveling and was forever telling stories of her adventures in Mexico with Wilf. No one could spend 5 minutes with Dot without laughing at her stories. She faithfully attended Prairie Spirit United Church and never missed a Sunday at worship if she could help it.
Mom will be missed by many, and we will never forget her warm laughter, generous soul, and heartfelt love. A special thank you to all of the staff at Grace Hospital 3S who showed such care and compassion to the woman we loved so much.
A celebration of Mom’s life is planned for April 25th at Prairie Spirit United Church at 11AM. Masks are required. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.
