The South Winnipeg Garden Club Executive, on behalf of its members sends our condolences to the family of Ed Wirth. Ed was an outstanding member of the South Winnipeg Garden Club for many years, both as a gardener and as our Treasurer. Ed was a very loyal garden club member, had a very nice garden and shared his extra garden produce with his church. He was a well-respected and a kind person who will be missed by family and friends.

It was with much sadness that I heard of Ed’s passing. I worked with Ed at Hudson Bay House for the Northern Stores Division of the Hudson Bay Co. I was a young green Assistant Accountant when I met Ed. He took me on my first visit to a store, Pine Falls, to review the food inventory results. Here comes Ed at his finest, on the way back Ed stopped on the highway, and has us out digging up peat moss for his garden. Ed was working the shovel. I was holding the bags open. Picture this, two men in 3 piece suits, standing about 20 feet from road putting peat moss in bags. Thus was Ed. His tutoring, common sense, and overall great guy was a foundation for my years with the company. Ed I will always have these fond memories, Rest In Peace, you are missed. Dale & Diana Brydges

We were saddened to hear Ed’s passing. It was a privilege to work with Ed at The Hudson Bay Company. I met Ed in the mid-’70s when he was working in our Montreal office and was happy to have him join us in the Winnipeg office. He always was a calm source of control and strength which assured that any problems would be solved in a professional manner. He was always held in high regard by all who worked with him. Ed was a gentleman adventurer. His quite resolve made our company a better place to be for his coworkers. Our sympathy goes out to his family. He will be missed but never forgotten and lives on in the spirit of his children and grandchildren. With Sympathy, Gary & Lorna Eggertson
