ELAINE FAYE FALK (LIEN)
It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of our beloved wife and mother, Elaine Faye Falk. Elaine passed away on Monday February 13th, 2023, at the Grace Hospital surrounded by her husband, children, and grandchildren at her bedside. The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and support staff in the ICU ward at the Grace Hospital.
Elaine is survived by her devoted husband Jake, children James and Nancy (Elliott), her sisters Tidge (Jack) and Linda (Harvey), sister-in-law Diane, grandchildren Isla and Rhaina, dozens of nieces, nephews, and cousins, each of whom she maintained a special relationship with. For Elaine, family always came first.
She was predeceased by her beloved son Robbie, her parents John and Musa Lien, and her brother Travis Lien. As one of Jehovah’s Witnesses, Elaine had a strong faith in the Bible’s promise of a resurrection to life on a paradise earth where pain, sickness, and death will be no more.
She was born August 18th, 1944, in Tisdale, Sk. She spent her youth in the Interlake, first in Hodgson and then Warren, Mb. She was a child prodigy, skipping three grades, completing her schooling at 15. She then moved to Prince Albert, Sk. Here she lived with her family, the Costain’s. Our families always maintained close ties to one another; her cousins were like siblings; their children became like cousins to her own children. Despite being scattered across the prairies our family always spent considerable time together.
She married Jacob Falk in 1965, and they spent the prime of their lives raising a family in the Crestview area recently celebrating 57 years of marriage.
Elaine’s love of literature was a constant. She always had a book on her bedside table, once complete it was added to her extensive personal library. She amassed many bookcases which contained biographies of all those who shaped modern history. In particular, she studied the great houses of Europe, forever fascinated with England, Scotland, Russia, Germany, and the complex history of Ireland. She loved “The Beautiful Game.” The World Cup always had her on the edge of her seat staunchly supporting England. Her love for biographies and poetry was only surpassed by her passion for music, her finger always on the pulse of the industry from the birth of the rock and roll era onwards. She loved spending time outside. From spring to fall she could always be found in her garden. She dearly loved animals, virtually always having a pet in her life. As a child there was “Tippy” and “Rex”, her own children had the family poodle “Phoebe” and finally her Westie “Maggie” who misses her master terribly. Our family carry warm memories of concerts, roller skating, the boys playing competitive baseball, afternoons spent hovering over challenging puzzles, and roast beef dinners together.
Most of all she loved Jehovah. Her family treasures the hope we shared that we will be reunited with her soon when “the last enemy, death, is to be brought to nothing.” (1 Corinthians 15:26) A devoted wife, a loving mother and grandmother, she will be dearly missed by all whose lives she touched.
