ELAINE RUTH SMITH
1948 – 2025
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Elaine Ruth Smith (Calder), 76, who died on February 15 in St. Pierre Jolys. Elaine’s final moments were peaceful, and she was surrounded by family that she loved so dearly. Elaine was a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, Aunt and friend and will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Born on August 6, 1948 in Steinbach, MB, Elaine lived a life full of love, kindness, and generosity. She met Bruce while attending the University of Manitoba and they married in 1970. They had two boys, Cory and Shane, and with their family had so many great adventures over the years. Road tripping across the country, camping, fishing, golfing, band concerts, countless hours in hockey rinks and other sporting events. For a few years starting in 2019, she became a grandma, and adored her grandchildren. She was so happy to spend time with them, and they loved their Grandma.
Elaine loved her family to no end, and their time spent together will provide memories that will last forever. In her later years Elaine was involved in many hobbies – travelling, golf, playing cards, line dancing, exercise class, yoga, pretty much anything where she would have the opportunity to socialize with friends and family. Elaine was always telling a story, and they weren’t often of the short variety, and with no guarantee you hadn’t heard that one from her a hundred times before. She was such a joy to be around.
Elaine is survived by her son, Shane (Donata), her grandchildren Henry and Nora, brother, Glen (Maryanne), and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She has many angels to be with now, her husband Bruce, son Cory, her Mom and Dad, brother Cam, sister Hazel, nephew Darcy, and others. She will be remembered for her kind heart, her joy and her smile, and the way she was always giving and never asking for anything in return.
A memorial service will be held at Wojcik’s Chapel at 1020 Main St. on February 28 at 1:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to The Compassionate Friends, Winnipeg Chapter. This organization was near and dear to Elaine’s heart, and a great support for our family after the passing of Cory.
We will miss you so much Mom. We are all so grateful to have had you in our lives. The memories we all shared with you will live on forever. It brings a smile to our face knowing you are with Dad and Cory now.
