I met Dale when I was a new volunteer at the zoo 5 years ago. It wasn't long before I was in awe of her many accomplishments - related to me by fellow volunteers - she never spoke of them herself. She shared her extensive knowledge of the animals freely and was always a joy to be around, and a true professional. My condolences to her family and all those who loved her. As a fellow volunteer at the park and zoo, I always enjoyed running into Dale. She was always upbeat, funny, personable, and knowledgeable. She helped in every capacity at the zoo and her many talents will be sorely missed. My condolences go out to Brian and family, Jane and Reg, and all who will miss her dearly. I know that I will. My deepest condolences to Brian, Julie and Joel and their families and Jayne and her family and siblings. Dale and I became fast friends as soon as we met during our first collaboration on a zoo project. Many more projects ensued, some crazier than others. We particularly enjoyed the ones involving sewing which gave us an excuse to go fabric shopping…not that we really needed one. Outside the zoo we brunched, crafted, shared books and perfected our gluten free baking. We were always laughing and in true Dale style, she retained her sense of humour throughout her illness. She was a talented lady and a wonderful friend. I think of her everyday and miss her a lot. Beverlee Hicks

Julie and family, I can remember being at the St James library back around 2008. At this time, my kids and Julie’s were little students at Discovery Nursery School. I had casually met your mom several times at pick-up time. When I saw with my kids at the library, she recognized me and came up to talk. First thing she said to me was: “I’m teaching Ava to sew”! Her eyes glistened and she had a bounce in her step. With that, she was off to gather some resources from the library to help in her cause! It was such a sweet and caring memory of her that I’m pleased to share with you during this sad time. I hope it makes you smile? 🧵 🪡 -Cindy Despins and family
