ELIZABETH HALLADAY
1936 – 2023
Elizabeth Margaret “Liz” Halladay, formerly known as Liz Todd, passed away peacefully on November 5, 2023, in Winnipeg, MB, at the age of 87. She was born on February 11, 1936, in Maribel Deucx – Montagnes Quebec. Liz was a beloved wife, sister, mother, stepmother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother.
Liz was known for her friendly and mild-mannered personality. She had a passion for working with the Poppy Fund, distributing Poppies to honor veterans, especially at the Winnipeg Airport prior to Remembrance Day. Liz cherished the opportunity to meet and greet people in this role.
In her career, Liz embarked on a journey that took her from Canada to Germany. She spent 13 years as the Assistant Manager at the Lahr CANEX warehouse, also supporting Baden. Afterward, she moved to Kenora, Ontario, where she worked at Canadian Tire before settling in Winnipeg. For 18 years, Liz worked at Unicity Supper Store, initially in security, which she thoroughly enjoyed as it allowed her to visit with people. Eventually, she transitioned to stocking until her retirement.
When Liz had free time, she indulged in her hobbies, which included golfing, fishing, and cooking. She would spend hours picking berries for canning and cherished her visits to a friend’s cabin near the lake north of Kenora, Ontario, where she enjoyed fishing. After moving to Winnipeg, Liz took up golfing at 17 Wing Air Base.
Liz will be deeply missed by her loving husband, Darcy, her sister Viola, her brother Howard, her daughters Heather, Sandra, and Deborah, as well as her stepsons Terry and Cory. She leaves behind a legacy of 4 grandsons, 6 granddaughters, 7 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild. Liz was predeceased by her mother, Margaret Ethel, her father, Henry Emerson Todd, her sister Anna, and her brothers Bill, Henry, and Angus.
A gathering (not a memorial service) will be held at the #4 Legion located at 1755 Portage Ave, Winnipeg, MB, from 3 PM to 5 PM Friday, November 10, 2023. Coffee and Tastie’s will be provided downstairs.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to be made to the Legion Poppy Fund, in support of our veterans.
Liz’s warm presence and kind-heartedness will be cherished by all who knew her. She will forever be remembered for her dedication to honoring veterans and her love for her family and community.
