Emile Duhard

March 16, 1948 - November 30, 2016

EMILE LEOPOLD ANDRE DUHARD

Surrounded by his family in his home, Emile passed away on Wednesday, November 30, 2016, following a hard fought battle with cancer, at the age of 68 years.   Remaining to forever cherish Emile’s memory are his wife, Glenda; his children, Christian (Jackie), Jodi (Byron) and Rebecca (Jeremy); step-children, Billie-Jo and Jean-Paul; three grandchildren; as well as sisters, Marguerite (Wallace), Suzanne (Rick), Annette and Gisele (Glen). He was predeceased by his parents, Marietta and Andre; stepfather, Knud; his paternal and maternal grandparents; and his brother-in-law, Danny.   Emile was born in Ste. Rose du Lac, Manitoba on March 16, 1948. He attended high school at Ste. Rose Collegiate Institute and went on to continue his education at the University of Manitoba before going on to become a Chartered Accountant.   After graduating, Emile worked at some major accounting firms before establishing his own firm, Duhard & Cousins in 1992. He was a very dedicated accountant who took immense pride in his profession and earned the respect of his clients. He started to ease himself into retirement in 2013.   Emile was an avid curler and golfer. In 1996 he became a member of the St. Boniface Golf and Country Club which he considered his summer home. Many years were spent at the Club with his son and a group of golfers who became Emile’s close friends. Even in his last moments, he expressed his love/hate relationship with the 17th hole.   As a father, Emile was always there for his children, offering advice and support whenever it was needed. He had a great relationship with his grandchildren and was generous with his time – and he never left them without a few coins to add to their piggy bank.   A celebration of Emile’s life will be held on Monday, December 5, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Boniface Golf and Country Club, 100 Youville Street, Winnipeg.   Thank you to the doctors and nurses at Cancer Care, Victoria General Hospital and Health Sciences Centre, and to Dr. L. Cummings. The family also wishes to extend a thank you to friends, co-workers, clients and neighbours for their support.   In lieu of flowers, donations in Emile’s memory may be made to The Canadian Cancer Society, 193 Sherbrook Street, Winnipeg, MB, R3C 2B7, or by credit card at 204-774-7483 and designate funds for Mesothelioma Research in Manitoba.   Wojcik’s Funeral Chapels & Crematoriums, Winnipeg, 2157 Portage Avenue, 204.897.4665 www.wojciksfuneralchapel.com

“My mind knows you’re in a better place where there is no pain,
I just wish I could explain that to my heart.
Now my dear, dear Emile go – your tee time awaits you. Love, kisses and Hugs”
– Glenda.
