EMILIE ANN NOVOTNY(nee NOVOTNI)
On November 24, 2016, Emilie passed away at the age of 85 years after a short illness. Emilie is survived by her children, Jude (Rick), Charles, and Monica (Derrick); grandchildren, Nolan, Charlotte, and Bianca; sister Lillian (Robert) and brother Edward; nephews Alan, Brad, Chris, Jack, Richard, and Kenneth and their spouses. She was predeceased by her husband Charly and grandson Owen. Emilie was born in Winnipeg on February 9, 1931, the daughter of immigrants Frances and Joseph. Having lost her father at an early age, Emilie and her siblings were raised by their mother in a close-knit community. Emilie worked as an administrative assistant since her teens but her favourite job was at University of Manitoba. Emilie married Charly in 1953 and raised a family that emphasized fairness and boisterous discussion. She was a warm, generous person with a wry sense of humour, who welcomed everyone into her house for meals and her famous Czech baking. Emilie liked music, opera, theatre, dancing, knitting, wildlife, and travel. She enjoyed family gatherings and weekly lunches with Lil and Bob. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Emilie’s memory to the Wildlife Haven Rehabilitation Centre in Ile des Chênes. As per Emilie’s wishes, no formal funeral service will be held. Instead, Emilie would want to us to raise a glass in honour of a life well lived. Na zdraví!
