EVELYN DUNSBY
(nee MILLNS)
September 1, 1916 – July 13, 2017
On Thursday, July 13, 2017 Evelyn passed away peacefully at the Grace Hospital. Evelyn is survived by her daughter Valerie Geddes (Robert); step grandchildren Elaine Csupak (Zoltan), Bill Geddes (Elisa), Bob Geddes Jr. (Carol) and Thomas Geddes and their families; sister Sally Lunn in England; sister-in-law Ann Millns; six nieces; one nephew and several great nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Bill in 1996. Born in Derbyshire, England, Evelyn was the oldest of five children born to Thomas and Elsie Millns. She met her husband, Bill at the beginning of WWll during a blackout and they were married in 1941. After the war, Evelyn and Bill lived in Scarborough, Yorkshire where their daughter Valerie was born. In 1956 the family moved to Canada and settled in Winnipeg. Here she worked at the old CNIB residence on Portage Avenue and after several years got a job as a unit clerk at the Children’s Hospital where she worked up until her retirement. Last year Evelyn celebrated her 100th birthday with family and friends, and was thrilled with the letters from the Queen and the Governor General. She was a longtime member of Deer Lodge United Church where she served on the alter guild and later a member at Sturgeon Creek United Church. Evelyn loved to sew, knit and read. As she got older she did less sewing but continued knitting and reading right up to the end. On Wednesday July 26, 2017 Evelyn’s Funeral Service will be held at 1:30 p.m. in Sturgeon Creek United Church, 207 Thompson Drive. In lieu of flowers donations in Evelyn’s memory may be made to charity of one’s choice.
