FREDA JONA CHRISTIE

(Nee SVEINSON)

Peacefully on Sunday, December 18, 2022 at DCL in Portage la Prairie, Freda was called to join her sisters, and best friends, Margaret and Sylvia in PARADISE.

Predeceased by husbands Alex, Gerald and Lorne, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Born in Silver Bay, MB; growing up in Winnipeg and spending much of her adult life in Portage, Freda’s infectious smile and amazing talents touched many. Whether for her needle craft, card game and culinary skills or Christian fellowship, she was always in demand. Yet no one appreciated this wonderful woman more than her family, whom she cherished. Throughout her long life, Freda was family to many.

Daughter to Sigurdur and Stefania. Daughter-in-law to George and Helena. Sister to Margaret, Jerry, Sylvia, and Paul. Mother to David, Darryl, Gloria, Douglas, and Doug. Grandmother to Jeffrey, Alison, Loren, Harmony, and Daniel. Great-Grandmother to Sasha, Grace, Ian, Madelyn and Charlotte. Mother-in-law to Geraldine, Margaret, Jennifer, Stella, and James. Sister-in-law to Donald, Arlene, Patrick, Wanda and Aline. Sister-in-law to Michael, Tilly, George, Nick, Rose, John, Sophie, Mary, Edward, Michelene, and Joseph. Aunt to Charlene, Alison, Sylvia, Shannon, Susan, Robert, Randy, Jerry, Derek, Gina, Larissa, and Paul-Michael. Aunt to Debbie, Jane, Sharon, Donna, Darlene, Terry, Gail, Karen, and Garry.

For these or any other relatives accidentally missed or living in Iceland; and to all her many, many friends, she would want you to know YOU were very IMPORTANT to her.

By Scripture, she lived her life. The LORD thy GOD first, and then others ahead of herself.

Mom’s final years were at the Third Crossing Manor in Gladstone and at the Douglas Campbell Lodge in Portage.

No words can fully express our family’s heart-felt appreciation for the tender care their entire staff provided.

Cremation has taken place and a celebration of Mom’s life will be held at a later date. Ample notification will be given.
