It was very sad to learn of Fred's passing. We first met him at the former Oxford United Church where he and his wife were part of a wonderfully small but supportive congregation. We saw him and his wife several times in recent years at various special events at the Japanese Cultural Centre and he always took the time to speak with both our daughters. He was always so kind and we could tell how much he loved his wife Alena. Whenever we have a cup of green tea at either the cultural centre or a restaurant we will think of him. Our condolences.

I had the privilege of knowing and working with Fred at Smith Carter Architects for nearly 15 years. He was a very kind, pleasant, sincere and professional gentleman. I was honored to be invited and attend his retirement party from Smith Carter over 20 years ago. I was also very pleased to see Fred again when he dropped by the office for a visit about a year and a half ago. We reminisced about some of the great times we shared on a professional and personal level. We worked together on many high profile projects and shared some amusing business trips to New York and Vancouver. Fred will be fondly remembered and never forgotten for the lasting and positive impressions he instilled on everyone. My deepest condolences are extended to Fred's wife, children and family for the loss of their most dear and loved family member.

Mrs Matsuo and family. I am so saddened to hear of Freddie's passing. Growing up among the broader family of Smith Carter, I remember Freddie well. He was such a kind and friendly man who always took time to say hi and visit with everyone. He was very dedicated employee and a good friend of my father Ernest who thought the world of Freddie. He will be missed by so many people. Chris Smith
