GARRY DANIEL WINFIELD
With heavy hearts we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father and grandfather Garry Daniel Winfield on October 11th, 2023.
Garry will be missed tremendously by his wife of 57 years, Linda, his daughter Christie (Christopher) and their children Lucas, Benjamin, Emily and Gabrielle, his son Andrew (Jennifer) and their children Cohen and Hudson, his mother Mary Winfield, his brother Roland (Elaine), his sisters Joan, Marilyn (Ken), Judy (Ken) and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Predeceased by his father Daniel and brother in law’s Harry and Terry.
Garry lived a life filled with joy, laughter and a profound love for his family. He was a loving husband, devoted father and a proud grandfather “Papa Bear”. He had a great sense of humour, loved to tell a good story and was loved by all who knew him. He was proud to be a teacher in the community and enjoyed chatting with students he had taught in the past and wherever he would go he would hear Mr. Winfield which meant so much to him.
Garry was born in Dauphin, MB and moved to Kamsack, SK in high school where he met the love of his life Linda. They moved to Winnipeg to start their family where he attended Manitoba Teacher’s College and received a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Manitoba.
Garry was very well known in the St. James-Assiniboia School Division with numerous years teaching at Ness Jr. High, Sansome Jr. High and Westwood High School. After retirement he continued on as a mentor to student teachers through the University of Winnipeg and Manitoba.
He leaves behind a legacy of love and support to his family, friends and community. He took great pride in his role as a Coach and was involved in numerous sporting teams over the years. He loved his community and was very involved in the Sturgeon Creek Community Club and was on the Board of Directors and was always searching for ways to bring people together.
He shared a passion for fishing with his family and lifelong friends “the Nutimik Whalers”. Later in life he found a hobby in wood carving and always enjoyed sharing stories during a good game of cards.
Garry’s most precious achievements in life were his children and grandchildren. He was always there to support them in any way he could, a Dad with Many Hats. He loved visiting with his grandkids and was so proud of them. It was truly the simple things that brought him so much joy, from watching a Jets game together or playing a family game of cards. He was happiest when everyone was together.
Cremation has taken place and interment will take place at a later date.
In Lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his honour to the Canadian Diabetes Association.
A limb has fallen from the family tree, that says grieve not for me.
Remember the Best Times, the Laughter, the Song,
The Good Life I lived while I was Strong.
Forever in Our Hearts
