Gary Lynch

September 6, 1955 - August 8, 2017

GARY DALE LYNCH
It is with heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved husband and father Gary on Tuesday, August 8, 2017 at Riverview Health Centre, at the age of 61 years.   Left to mourn Gary’s memory are his loving wife Leslie; beloved son Matthew (Sarah) and his special girl Sophie. Also mourning his passing are siblings Jim (Donna), Pat (Neil), Wayne (Marlene); sister-in-law Brenda and many nieces, nephews and friends. He was predeceased by his parents Patrick and Marjorie; his wonderful brother Ron and nephew Joshua.   Gary was the kindest man and had a smile for everyone he met. He was born in Winnipeg and attended Riverview School and Churchill High School. His love for all sports created incredible lifelong friendships. In Gary’s youth, he played for the Arsenal Soccer Club in Winnipeg and then later went on to coach in the Winnipeg Women’s Soccer League. Bowling and curling were other favourite activities. Arsenal F.C. and the Montreal Canadiens held a special place in Gary’s heart, the Jets became a close second. These sports took a back seat when his son Matthew began playing hockey. Being a hockey dad became his favourite passion. He loved being at the rink with his son. Gary loved the lake and was fortunate to spend summers at Ingolf with our special friends the Mots family. Camping and fishing trips were the best times. These were shared with many special people and will always be remembered lovingly. Winter became a time to decide which Caribbean island we would visit. We were fortunate to spend two glorious weeks soaking in the sun the last few winters. These memories will always be special.   After high school, Gary began working at Riverview Health Centre and then went on to Burns Meats for 22 years. In 1999, he began working in Material Management at Health Sciences Centre. This became more than a job to him. He met many fabulous people who became good friends and colleagues. They became a special part of his life.   In May 2016, our world came crashing down when Gary was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. He bravely fought this horrific disease and never questioned why this happened to him. Cancer could not destroy his positive spirit.   “Thank you” doesn’t seem enough to say to all the amazing people who have supported us through Gary’s cancer journey, our dear friends and neighbours, our wonderful HSC family, all of the angels at Victoria Hospital Buhler Cancer Centre and Riverview Health Centre. Also, all of the doctors and nursing staff who worked so hard to make Gary well. You all know who you are.   Gary’s Funeral Service will be held at The United Church in Meadowood, located at 1111 Dakota Street, on Wednesday, August 16, 2017 at 3:00 p.m.   Flowers are gratefully declined. There was always a special place in Gary’s heart for the patients and friends he visited daily at the Children’s Hospital. For anyone who wishes to honour Gary’s memory, we would be grateful for donations to be made to the Children’s Hospital Foundation of Manitoba, located at 840 Sherbrook Street.   Wojcik’s Funeral Chapels & Crematoriums, Winnipeg, 2157 Portage Avenue, 204.897.4665 www.wojciksfuneralchapel.com
