George Cook

November 9, 1929 - August 21, 2015

GEORGE ARTHUR COOK (COOKIE)

The family of George Arthur Cook (Cookie) are saddened to announce his passing on Friday August 21, 2015. Although unexpected, George passed away peacefully doing something he enjoyed – reading.
George leaves behind his ever loving, devoted wife Patricia; three children Brian, Sandra, and Leila; stepchildren Gina, Jerome and Gavin; 19 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren; sister Ruth and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son Dohny.
Born November 9, 1929, George grew up in Winnipeg and served in the Air Force for five years as a young man, later moving to Edmonton in the 1960’s where he worked in automotive sales. Upon returning to Winnipeg in 1983 George worked at Winnipeg Jeep Eagle and retired 20 years ago. He was a proud member of the John Osborne VC Army and Navy unit #1 for over 20 years and served as their Sergeant at Arms for eight years. He enjoyed this role very much and took part in many parades and services. George always had the shiniest boots!
George will be remembered for his PR personality. He liked to travel and enjoyed trips to Mexico, Cuba and the U.S. with his wife Pat. Always a music enthusiast George loved to play the drums and instilled this passion in his kids, nephews and grandkids. If he didn’t have a set of drums a pair of spoons would do! He competed as a roller dancer with his sister in his early years and enjoyed dancing to all kinds of music (including the Macarena!). George was a great friend to all, he was outgoing and fun and loved to socialize with friends and family usually over a glass of whiskey (or four).
No formal Funeral Service will be held. A private Interment with the family will be held at a later date.
Many thanks to all of the staff at Tuxedo Villa where George resided for the last four years.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made in George’s name to the John Osborne ANAF Unit 1 VC 300 – 1395 Ellice Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3G 0G3.
