Gerald Philippot

July 7, 1949 - February 5, 2018

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Gerald (Gerry) Philippot of Winnipeg on Monday, February 5, 2018 with his daughter Andrea at his side at St. Boniface Hospital at the age of 68 years.

Gerry is survived by his wife of 43 years of marriage, Elaine; their beloved cat Angel; daughter Andrea (Rob); grandkids Hunter and Kyle; sisters, Jeanne (Dave), Margaret, Denise (Abe), brother; Andre, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; close friend Bill Friesen, and their seven pet cats whom he affectionately referred to as F-Troop.

Born in St. Claude, MB to Joseph Marie and Jeanne on July 7, 1949, the third eldest of five siblings. Gerry spoke fondly of his early memories of life on the farm. He served with the PPCLI during peacetime in Germany and had some interesting stories to tell. In 1974 Gerry met Elaine, the love of his life, at the Airliner Hotel. They were married three months later on a beautiful fall day with family and friends by their side. In 1979 along came daughter Andrea. Gerry was proud of his small family.

Gerry was employed in the furniture industry and eventually took a position with the Canadian Corps of Commissionaires where he worked for 26 years until his retirement. Gerry enjoyed doing tax preparation, leather work and putting to use the culinary classes from his younger days. He was a loving husband and caregiver to Elaine and was very proud of the role of father and then Grandpere when the grandkids came along. Gerry and Elaine attended the High Steppers Seniors Club, where he enjoyed the activities and friendships. At the time of his passing, he and Elaine resided in the senior’s block at 875 Elizabeth Road where they made many cherished friends.

A celebration of Gerry’s life will take place on Tuesday, February 20, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. in Wojcik’s Funeral Chapel 1020 Main Street @ Manitoba Avenue.

The family would like to thank the ER Staff at the St. Boniface Hospital and the WFPS for all the care and compassion they showed Gerry in his final moments. We would also like to thank the residents and staff at 875 Elizabeth Road for being there for us after his passing with kind words and hugs.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Winnipeg Humane Society, or any No Kill shelter.
