GERTRUDE (TRUDY) KILPATRICK(nee BARTA)
Trudy Kilpatrick passed away very unexpectedly May 6, 2016 at the age of 72, after recovering from treatment for lung cancer. She is survived by her husband and soul-mate of 51 years: Douglas; two children: Carrol (Andrew) and Keith (Lorellee); five grandchildren: Christina, James and Samantha, Kadin and Kellin; three siblings: Francis (Jim), Theresa (Jack – deceased) and Michael (Sheila), and many, many friends and extended family members. Trudy was born and raised in St. Vital, Winnipeg. She first met Doug while in the St. Boniface School of Nursing and simply said… she lived an adventurous life with him. In the first few years together they were married, had children, and bought an island on Lake of the Woods where they ran a fishing lodge. They moved to the U.S. in 1967 and back again to Canada in 1980, where she worked in both countries as a nurse, nursing teacher, and for many years at the Health Sciences Centre as an inservice instructor specializing in cardiac care. Later, they semi-retired by running the store at Rushing River. After selling the store and fully retiring they lived in Keewatin, Ontario. During this time Trudy supported Doug in his music career and often was the sound man for the band. Their latest adventure was selling their house and spending three years travelling across North America in their motor-coach, missing only six states and one territory. They recently purchased a new home in Kenora with a beautiful view of the lake. Although their life together was very colourful, she liked things to be simple. She always listened a lot more than she talked, and she found value in people and not possessions. Trudy loved her family dearly and was so proud of her children and grandchildren. Her smile and zest for life will forever be missed. Services to be held at Knox United Church in Kenora, on Saturday, May 14, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to CancerCare Manitoba Foundation.
