GUY MACKAY CUDMORE
1948 ? 2015
It is with deep and heavy sadness that we announce the death of Guy Mackay Cudmore, who passed away surrounded by his loving family at the Victoria General Hospital on Wednesday, May 20, 2015.
Guy was predeceased by his father Clare Cudmore, and will be sadly missed by his mother, Mildred Cudmore; sister Marlene Thorne (Garry); daughters Brandy Cudmore-Mann (Jason) and Kelley Komar (Shane); grandchildren Presley, Fenton, Paiton, and Macy; niece Haley Thorne (Chris); nephew Graham Thorne (Chris); grandniece Stella; grandnephew Ari; and beloved furry pal Hank.
On August 28, 1948 Guy was born in Crystal City, Manitoba, where he lived during his youth and most of his young adult life. His days there were filled with ease, fun, and finding ways to get out of going to school to play sports, particularly hockey and baseball, at which he excelled. In later years Guy and his father ran the local bakery, where some of his best memories were of baking, and spending time with his dad. In the late 1970?s Guy and his young family moved to Dryden, Ontario, where he took a job as the local radio host. Although not a lucrative position financially, Guy often said those were his glory days. His expertise in the baking industry pulled him away from radio, sacrificing this love to provide for his family, a gesture that will never be forgotten by his daughters. Subsequent years kept him working in sales in the flour and baking industry, and later on working as an independent courier driver. In recent years, Guy shared a special relationship with his mother, reading, chatting, and sharing countless hours together, while caring for each other, day to day.
To know Guy was to know this ? his family came first and he was fiercely proud of his girls, particularly of the women and mothers they have become. He played a huge part in this – it is the paramount legacy of his life, and he would not have had it any other way. While he excelled at many things ? being a son, father, grandfather, brother and uncle; player of racquet sports, hockey and baseball; master of pizza, bread, cinnamon buns, and cabbage rolls; grower of tomatoes; guru of obscure trivia; spreader of love and hugs; being a comedian and prankster, an animal lover, and cheerleader for the underdog (including his beloved Blue Bombers); lover of Red Lobster; expert Donald Duck impersonator ? Guy always said he was richer than the richest man in the world because money could not buy the family he had. He was not distracted by materialistic measures ? he gave more than he had, sacrificed his own needs for the betterment of others, and in the end he was paid back thousand fold, having the unwavering love and support of all his family, especially his daughters. In no uncertain terms, he achieved this most important lifelong goal he had set out for himself. His success lives on in the hearts of his family, and in the endeavors of his children and grandchildren.
Guy, your humble roots and caring way will never be forgotten. We love you and we are all thankful to have been part of your life, to have benefited in so many ways by knowing you, and from all that you have given to each of us, whether big or small.
A private family tribute will be celebrated. Anyone who remembers him, crossed paths with him, or was touched by his kindness in any way are asked to celebrate Guy?s life in their own special way.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you perform an unsolicited act of kindness, as a remembrance to Guy. He would want nothing else.
