HELEN MCKAY

February 1, 2014

HELEN LANDELS MCKAY April 6, 1929 – February 1, 2014 Peacefully, at the age of 84 years, with her family by her side, Mom departed from our lives. Her spirit, however, will live on with us all forever. A loving wife, mother and grandmother, Helen has left to mourn her loving husband Bud; daughter Sharon (Ken); grandson Matthew (Marcy); and her grandchildren Katie and Wes McKay. She was predeceased by her son Kerry and her sister Marion. Mom was a wonderful woman who cherished her family and friends more than anything. She especially loved time spent with family and friends at our cottage on Dogtooth Lake. She always made sure her flowers were well taken care of and that the hummingbird feeder was full. Mom and Dad spent many winters as Snowbirds in Lakeland, Florida, where they met a wonderful group of both Canadian and Americans whose friendships Mom cherished. Mom also enjoyed the time she spent with the Bridge ladies and also the many walks with friends in Assiniboine Park. Mom retired from the Bank of Montreal after many years of dedicated service and where she made lifelong friendships. After retiring, Mom volunteered her time at the Nearly New Shop, whose proceeds went to the Children’s Hospital. In accordance with family wishes, no service is being considered at this time. We would like to thank the wonderful people at West Park Manor Personal Care Home for their care and compassion with Mom during her stay with them. In lieu of flowers, donations to either the Manitoba Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Alzheimer’s Society of Manitoba, would be sincerely appreciated. Wojcik’s Funeral Chapel & Crematorium, 2157 Portage Avenue, 204-897-4665, is in care of arrangements. wojciksfuneralchapel.com   As published in the Winnipeg Free Press on February 08, 2014
