Peacefully and surrounded by his loving family, Helmut passed away on Sunday, May 7, 2017, at the Concordia Hospital, at the age of 85 years.   Helmut will be dearly missed by his devoted wife Martha, who was at his side graciously providing care throughout his illness. His pride and joy were his five children, Bernie (Jeanette), Gordon (Monique), Peter (Debbie), Ingrid (Kelly) and Ron (Laura). He was also very proud of all of his grandchildren, Breanne, Riley (Kristen), Kevin (Elise), Renée and Dominic, Ryan, Tristan and Quinn, Brenna as well as great-grandson, Connor. Helmut will also be missed by his siblings, Heide, Erwin, Wilma and their families. He was predeceased by his parents, Emil and Emma; sister Edith and her husband Gerd and brother-in-law, Denis.   Born in Lithuania on April 25, 1932, Helmut immigrated to Canada as a young man where he met Martha, the love of his life, who he shared the happiest of marriage for 60 years. Helmut enjoyed spending time with his family, especially during holidays when everyone could be together. He took great pleasure in trips with his siblings to visit family in California and to Germany where he lived as a child, where they all together created many happy memories. Helmut was very fond of gardening, puttering around the house doing small repairs and would always be available to help his children whenever needed.   On Friday, May 12, 2017, Helmut’s Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Memories in Wojcik’s Funeral Chapel, 1020 Main Street at Manitoba Avenue. A private family Interment will be held at a later time.   In lieu of flowers and if friends desire, donations may be made to Kin Place Personal Care Home, Box 28, Oakbank, MB R0E 1J0, where Helmut resided and received the best care for the past few years.   Wojcik’s Funeral Chapels & Crematoriums, Winnipeg, 1020 Main Street, 204.586.8668 www.wojciksfuneralchapel.com
