HERBERT GORDON STEINHAUER
February 17, 1929 – September 6, 2015
You are the wind beneath my wings

It is with heavy hearts that the family wishes to announce that on Sunday, September 6, 2015, Herb completed his circle of life at the Grace Hospital in Winnipeg.
Herb is survived by Bert, his loving bride of 57 years, his children Doug (Lesley) of Airdrie, AB, daughter Sheona (Dwayne) of Winnipeg, granddaughter Ceilidh Miller, and grandsons Padraig Miller, Duncan Steinhauer, and Sam Steinhauer. Also surviving Herb is his sister-in-law, Mary Helen Steinhauer of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL, his nephew, Dr. David Steinhauer of Atlanta, GA, and his niece, Kathy Knight of Olney, MD and their families. He was predeceased by his parents, Christian and Amanda Steinhauer, and his brother, Dr. Allen Steinhauer.
Herb was born and raised in Winnipeg’s North End where he attended school and played football. During his 50-year career with CCM (sporting goods), Herb lived in Winnipeg, Toronto, Montreal, Buffalo, NY, and Calgary where he provided personalized fittings to many NHL players who would only be fitted by Herb. Herb’s greatest accomplishment in life was his family. He supported every dream his children had. His proudest moments were the births of his four grandchildren. He never missed an opportunity to speak with or be with them whether it be near or far.
The family wishes to thank the following for their care and compassion: Dr. W.C. Schellenberg, Family Physician, Doctors Todd Sekundiak and David Hedden, Orthopedic Surgeons, Dr. Emily Rimmer, Hematologist, and especially Grace Hospital staff on 3 South including Dr. Julian Joshua and Dr. Ron George who made Herb’s last weeks as comfortable as possible.
As per his wishes, Herb’s body has been donated to the University of Manitoba for the advancement of medicine through anatomical study. In lieu of flowers, friends may wish to contribute to either the Canadian Diabetes Association, 200-310 Broadway Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3C 0S6 or to the Anatomical Research Fund, c/o University of Manitoba, Department of Human Anatomy and Cell Science, Faculty of Medicine, 130 Basic Medical Sciences Building, 745 Bannatyne Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3E 0J9.
A Remembrance Gathering will be held on Saturday, September 12, 2015, 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at 398 Kirkfield Street in Winnipeg. All family and friends are welcome to attend.

A limb has fallen from the family tree.
I keep hearing a voice that says ?Grieve not for me?.
Remember the best times, the laughter, the song.
The good life I lived while I was strong.
Continue my heritage, I am counting on you.
Keep smiling and surely the sun will shine through.
My mind is at ease, my soul is at rest.
Remembering all how I truly was blessed.
Continue traditions, no matter how small.
Go on with your life, don’t worry about the falls.
I miss you all dearly, so keep up your chin.
Until the day comes we’re together again.
Goodnight Uncle Herbie

LOVE YOU PAPA
