HUGH DOUGLAS GORDON
   Hugh Douglas Gordon died peacefully at the Health Sciences Centre on Saturday, July 16, 2016 in Winnipeg, MB at the age of 77.   Hugh is survived by his wife Dawne, daughter Glynis Zubec (Matt), son Fraser (Robyn), grandchildren: Sara, Payton, Evan, Ainslie, and brother Bruce (Marlene), along with numerous nieces, nephews, and other family members and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Dr. Athol R. and Ruth Gordon, and in-laws Donald and Verna Fraser.    Hugh was born May 14, 1939 in Winnipeg, MB. He graduated from St. John’s College at the University of Manitoba with a Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Education. Hugh met Dawne while studying at St. John’s College, and they were married in 1964. Hugh was a truly dedicated and passionate teacher who loved his work and his students. From 1964 to 1999, he taught in the St. James School Division at Deer Lodge, Golden Gate, John Taylor and then Silver Heights. After his retirement he continued as a substitute teacher for another five years.    Hugh was an avid outdoorsman who loved canoeing, camping and hiking, particularly in mountains and canyon lands, and enjoyed sharing these passions with family and friends. Hugh had many hobbies and enjoyed keeping busy with wine making, gardening, curling, bridge, reading, stained glass and travelling (particularly to Las Vegas).    Hugh was a witty, funny, caring, and dedicated individual. He was affectionately known as Grandpa Goofy, and wore this name with pride, which was especially evident when he would play with his grandchildren. He was an active and dedicated member and lay reader at St. Chad’s Anglican Church.       A funeral service is scheduled for Thursday, July 21, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Chad’s Anglican Church, located in the Kirkfield Park United Church building at 472 Kirkfield Street, Winnipeg, MB, with a reception to follow.
