IRENE STILES (nee KALB) September 6, 1923 – March 4, 2014 Peacefully on Tuesday, March 4, 2014 at Golden Links Lodge, Irene Stiles of Winnipeg passed away at the age of 90 years. Irene is survived by sons Douglas (Erna) and Allan Stiles; daughter Valerie (Geoff) Nuytten; five granddaughters; three great-granddaughters; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Alfred Stiles; brothers Ernest, Sidney and Arthur Kalb; and sister Edith Maskell. Irene and Alf met at Burns Meats where they both worked, and were wed in l945. They spent 58 wonderful years together before his passing in 2003. They were avid square dancers for many years and made many lifelong friends. In retirement they loved to travel or relax and enjoy the cottage at Malachi. Irene was very creative and, despite her struggles with Parkinson’s Disease, enjoyed oil painting, paper dole, needle point, knitting, and crafts. All her granddaughters had beautiful sweaters, scarves, mitts, and hats knit by grandma. In her professional life, Irene worked at Assiniboine Credit Union and the Stabilization Fund. A graveside service will be held in the St. Vital Cemetery, 236 River Road, Winnipeg, MB. Special thanks are extended to all the staff at Golden Links Lodge for their caring, love, and support. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Parkinson Society Manitoba.
