Irene Weeres
December 14, 1932 - September 25, 2017
IRENE MARIE WEERES
It is with profound sorrow that the family announces the passing of Irene Weeres, on Monday, September 25, 2017 at River Park Gardens in Winnipeg, Manitoba at the age of 84 years. She has been reunited with her loving husband of 61 years, Lloyd Weeres, who passed just 16 days prior. Irene will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Brenda (Mike), grandchildren Logan and Lauren; son Brian (Shelby), grandson Jordan; daughter Arlene (Mike), grandchildren, Matthew, Geoffrey (Mandy), Kayley, Nicholas and Liam; siblings Estelle, Laurette, Omer and Julien, as well as many in-laws, nieces, nephews and friends. She was predeceased by her son Kevin; mother and father Laura and Elie Jalbert and her siblings Etienne, Henriette, Wilfred and Roger. In 1932 Irene was born and raised on the Jalbert homestead near Lafleche, Saskatchewan. Her schooling was started at a small country school nearby, until she went to middle and high school at convents in Lafleche and Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. She then moved to Regina, to attend Beauty Culture school and became a hair stylist in 1952. She started her career working at a salon in Radville. Irene then moved to Assiniboia and bravely opened her own shop which turned out to be a great success. This is where she met and married Lloyd, the love of her life, and started their young family. As Lloyd and family moved for work throughout Saskatchewan, Irene kept busy raising four children and continued her hair salon business. When they moved to Roblin, Manitoba in 1968, Irene once again set up a very successful business with a hair salon established in the basement of her home. One of Irene’s greatest joys were her faithful customers. She was also actively involved in the community, as a member of the Roblin and District Health Care Auxiliary, Sacred Heart Church Women’s League and Meals on Wheels, to name a few. Her kind and generous nature had her often baking for some event, styling hair or playing piano at the personal care home, or assisting anyone in need. Irene loved to curl and play golf, but her favourite pastime was her music, playing the accordion, piano and organ. She also enjoyed painting, sewing and crafts. Irene, always the optimist, was a fun, happy and loving person, with her laughter and smile filling the room and our hearts. She spoke often of her cherished friends in Roblin, but was most proud and fulfilled being surrounded by her family and loving grandchildren who will miss her dearly. A Funeral Service will be held for both Lloyd and Irene Weeres on Monday, October 9, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. in Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, 250 Spear Drive, Roblin, Manitoba. The family would like to thank the staff at River Park Gardens for their love and care of Irene. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association, or the Alzheimer’s Society.
