JAMES IWANCHUK
James Michael Iwanchuk passed away peacefully, with his family at his side, on March 27, 2024, just a couple of months shy of his 92nd birthday.
He was predeceased by his father and mother, Michael and Anna Iwanchuk and his son Randy (Tracy). Left to mourn is his wife Voyne Richard, sons, Dan (Darlene), Stan, Tim as well as many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
As a young man Jim was an avid sports lover. He loved downhill skiing, baseball, curling and many other sports. However, his true passion was automobiles. He turned his father’s auto repair business into a highly respected engine and driveline rebuilding shop. He started racing by installing a Corvette engine into a small MGA and ran it for many years with the Winnipeg Sports Car Club. He was later involved in racing Formula Ford and Formula V with his sons.
When Jim turned 70 he started building a 1932 Ford pickup similar to the one he fondly remembers his father driving. Jim did not start with an original “32”, he built a brand-new truck with a new frame, new steel body and completely updated suspension and electrical. The only parts that were not new was the engine that he rebuilt and the transmission, his close friend, Don Senkow built.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Wojick’s Funeral Chapel & Crematorium, 2157 Portage Ave., Winnipeg, MB.
