JEAN EVE LILLIAN CHRISTY
              On Friday, September 15, 2017, Jean passed away in Winnipeg, Manitoba, after a courageous battle from the complications of diabetes, at the age of 66 years.      Remaining to cherish Jean’s memory are, her partner of 34 years, Leon Simard; brother Rob; sister Chris McMurray; special nieces, Cayla and Erica Christy of BC and Cobina Hardisty and Kali Simard of Winnipeg; numerous nieces and nephews from her large extended family in Manigotogan and Winnipeg, as well as numerous in-laws and friends.      Jean was born in Winnipeg to William and Lillian Christy (nee Hawyluk). She lived most of her life in Winnipeg, except for ten years in Manigotogan, where she enjoyed the beaches, picking berries and mushrooms. A flower child of the 60’s, Jean loved gardening, doing stained glass, pottery, photography and flower arranging. She was an avid cook and baker and was very proud of her Ukrainian heritage. She volunteered many years at the Winnipeg Folk Festival as a photographer and left behind many volumes of photos of the performers there in the 70’s. Jean taught photography at Red River Community College and was a teacher’s assistant at Children of the Earth High School and Niji Mahkwa schools in Winnipeg.
