JERRY JAMES SWENARCHUK
JULY 7, 1943- JULY 31, 2023
It is with a heavy heart that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved husband /dad /Grandpa. Jerry passed at the age of 80, in the early hours of July 31st. Remaining to cherish his memory is his beloved wife Jean; his daughter Tannis (Casey), son Sean (Melanie) and grandsons Sam and Elliot. Also remaining to remember Jerry is his brother Vic (Sandra) and beloved brother in-law Wally (Virgie) and nieces Della, Debbie (Wayne) and nephews Jim (Diana), Darryl (Leanna) and in-laws, Rick and Pat, as well as numerous relatives and friends.
Jerry was born on July 7th, 1943, in Selkirk, Manitoba to Mike and Ann Swenarchuk. Growing up in Winnipeg with siblings Vic and Terry – Jerry joined his dad Mike as a barber at Mike’s Barber shop on Berry Street. In 1964 Jerry met the love of his life Jean and they went on to celebrate more than 57 years of wonderful marriage together.
He was absolutely passionate about fitness – and obtained the well-deserved body building titles in his teens and early 20’s of Mr. Winnipeg, Mr. Manitoba and Mr. Red River Valley. He also obtained his 2nd Dan black belt in Tae Kwon Do and went on to open a club and teach with Tannis and Sean.
After retiring as a barber at the age of 64, Jerry went on to study with the fitness council, and became a fitness instructor – teaching clients from all walks of life at the Cindy Klassen Centre and St James Civic Centre.
Those who know and loved Jerry, know how much he loved family and outdoor activities…he loved fishing and watching the Bombers and the Jets. He was passionate about music and watching Westerns, reading, archery, photography, cars, working out and weight training.
Jerry lived life with so much love and laughter and always enjoyed sharing pranks and his latest email jokes.
Jerry was so kind to all animals and made it a daily mission to feed the squirrels and birds – especially the Blue Jays that visited his back yard everyday.
Special thanks to the health care teams at Seven Oaks and HSC hospitals.
Jerry will be cremated according to his wishes and no formal service will be held.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Winnipeg Pet Rescue Shelter at 2727 Portage Avenue in Winnipeg on Jerry’s behalf.
