Dragonfly PoemDown below the surface of a quiet pond lived a little colony of water bugs. They were a happy colony, living far away from the sun. For many months they were very busy, scurrying over the soft mud on the bottom of the pond. They did notice that every once in a while one of their colony seemed to lose interest in going about. Clinging to the stem of a pond lily it gradually moved out of sight and was seen no more.“Look!” said one of the water bugs to another. “One of our colony is climbing up the lily stalk. Where do you think she is going?” Up, up, up it slowly went. Even as they watched, the water bug disappeared from sight. Its friends waited and waited but it didn’t return…“That’s funny!” said one water bug to another.“Wasn’t she happy here?” asked a second…“Where do you suppose she went?” wondered a third. No one had an answer. They were greatly puzzled. Finally one of the water bugs, a leader in the colony, gathered its friends together.“I have an idea”. The next one of us who climbs up the lily stalk must promise to come back and tell us where he or she went and why.“We promise”, they said solemnly. One spring day, not long after, the very water bug who had suggested the plan found himself climbing up the lily stalk. Up, up, up, he went. Before he knew what was happening, he had broke through the surface of the water and fallen onto the broad, green lily pad above. When he awoke, he looked about with surprise. He couldn’t believe what he saw.A startling change had come to his old body. His movement revealed four silver wings and a long tail. Even as he struggled, he felt an impulse to move his wings…The warmth of the sun soon dried the moisture from the new body. He moved his wings again and suddenly found himself up above the water. He had become a dragonfly!!Swooping and dipping in great curves, he flew through the air. He felt exhilarated in the new atmosphere. By and by the new dragonfly lighted happily on a lily pad to rest. Then it was that he chanced to look below to the bottom of the pond. Why, he was right above his old friends, the water bugs! There they were scurrying around, just as he had been doing some time before. The dragonfly remembered the promise: “The next one of us who climbs up the lily stalk will come back and tell where he or she went and why.”Without thinking, the dragonfly darted down. Suddenly he hit the surface of the water and bounced away. Now that he was a dragonfly, he could no longer go into the water…“I can’t return!” he said in dismay. “At least, I tried. But I can’t keep my promise. Even if I could go back, not one of the water bugs would know me in my new body. I guess I’ll just have to wait until they become dragonflies too. Then they’ll understand what has happened to me, and where I went.”And the dragonfly winged off happily into its wonderful new world of sun and air.To my sweetest niece JessicaLove Auntie TrinaI weep for those you left behind you will always be in my heart.

I met Jessica when she started dating my son. I fell in love with her vibrant personality immediately. When my marriage ended, she came to live with us on Henderson Highway. We had great times living together. She helped me through the dark days of divorce, she came to the hospital with me and we held my stillborn grandson, she came to the vet with me when I had to euthanize my dog Jessie...she was my strength and my sunshine. We laughed, we cried...I wish we'd had more time together. Fly with the angels honey! I'm going to miss you so!

The tremendous void Jess's passing has left in my life & in my heart is something that just can't be put into adequate words & I know without a doubt this terrible feeling is one that is shared by such a vast number of people right now, who are struggling to come to grips with the pain & confusion that tears at us as we attempt to cope with facing a life without Jessica. For me, that realization is so alien & unimaginable. So heart-wrenching & unthinkable. Suddenly one of the people in my life I am closest to & had one of the strongest bonds with is not just a phone call or text away...no longer a few minute drive away, no longer right where I always thought she would be...here in my life. Jessica is loved by such an immense number of people...I know what I'm feeling must be a feeling shared by so many right now. I love Jesicas like a sister & our relationship was so unique & unconditional. One of Jessica's special gifts, I believe, was her ability to have such unique, special, complex & deep relationships with so many of the people her life intersected with. To be able to love so completely & unconditionally. To feel so much for others & be able to express this to them daily & let them know just how much they mean to you & giving to others in such a selfless way regularly is something that is truly a beautiful, rare & amazing gift that Jessica gave to all she touched. To me, that is Jessica & her presence in my life, summarized. She understood me as very few ever have & accepted me utterly & completely unconditionally. I feel unbelievably blessed & lucky to have been given the gift of experiencing such a special & beautiful bond in my lifetime & will be forever grateful to Jessica for giving me that. She had a spirit about her that was unlike anything else. Her beautiful soul shone with a light like nothing else I've seen. I love you Jessica. I miss you terribly & I look forward to the day I see you again & am faced with that beautiful smile that a million of my memories begin with...until that day I will hold you in those memories & in my heart & know that you are still all around us & will live on forever in the hearts of all who knew you. Catch you on the flip side Jessie-Girl. xoxoxoxoxo

I met Jessica through Dale. Before I met her, Dale had told me about her. He told me she was the most amazing, most beautiful, and sweetest girl he had ever met. I've never heard him talk about someone with such love. I met Jessica a few months later and we instantly became friends. As soon as I met her I realized everything Dale had told me about her was true. So sweet, and so caring. She was filled with so much love to give. I knew her for about 2 years, she was the type of person who imprinted on the people’s lives she touched. Her beautiful smile, her enthusiasm, her usual “Hi, Hunny”. I wish I had more time with her, but she has left me with many memories that I am thankful for. I will miss our movie nights and our girls' days. I will never forget her and that huge smile on her face when she tried on the onesie and slippers I had got for her last Christmas. My condolences go out to Dale and Jessica’s families. She was an amazing person and truly lived her life to the fullest.
