JOANNE FORTIN

November 16, 2014

JOANNE BARBARA FORTIN (nee BJORKLUND) It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved Joanne on Tuesday, September 16, 2014 at the age of 75 years, with family at her side. Left to remember Joanne are her loving husband Wilfred; children Calvin (Frances), George (Ange), Tannis (Phil), Diane (Les) and Donna (Gary); stepchildren Margaret (Les), Bertha (Keith), Nancy (Mark), Patricia, Rhonda (Brian) and Rhonda Fortin; grandchildren Chris (Jen), William, Spencer, Jaymesen, Caitlin, Sally, Chase, Toni (Ben), Kendall, Robin, Leslie, Mike, Brittany, Randy, George, John Thomas, Wesley, Brianna, Chantel, Dylan, Scott and Michael; three great-children; numerous nieces; nephews; cousins; as well as by sister Robina who will miss her deeply as they were so close to each other. She was predeceased by her parents; brothers; and two sisters. Mom was born on October 3, 1938 and lived an adventuresome filled life, taking her from Churchill, her birth place, to places all over Manitoba, Ontario and Saskatchewan with work. She reunited with her first love Wilfred in 1997; they had been sweethearts in Churchill when they were 15 years old but fate took them apart and it was fate that they met up again. For the past 17 years they had been living like two teenagers in love and Wilfred is feeling the loss of his sweetheart deeply. In compliance with Joanne’s wishes no formal Funeral Service will be held. Thank you to the doctors and nurses on GB3 wing at the Health Sciences Centre who tried so valiantly to stabilize Mom. Your respect and dignity shown towards Mom in her final hours should be commended. Thank you for the support during that difficult situation, it is greatly appreciated. Wojcik’s Funeral Chapel & Crematorium, 2157 Portage Avenue, 204.897.4665, is in care of arrangements. wojciksfuneralchapel.com Mom, for the past few years you went through many health challenges and you always faced them head on with courage and strength. Your passing was not expected this soon but your memory will forever be with us and we take comfort in that. Rest peacefully now. Love you!   As published in the Winnipeg Free Press on September 20, 2014
