Josephine Marie Belanger

January 19, 1920 - June 10, 2022

Josephine (Jo) Belanger

It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Josephine (Jo) Belanger on June 10, 2022, the way that she wanted to, (In Her Sleep). She spoke with family the day and evening before. She was the foundation of our family, the person we all relied upon. Mom never judged any of us and supported us in whatever we decided to do.

Jo was born on January 19, 1920, at her family farm near Amherst N.S. She was the second youngest of 13 siblings. Terry was born in 1950 in Amherst. Mom, Dad and Terry moved to Manitoba five years later. Andree, Mark and France all born in Winnipeg.

Jo loved all her Grandkids and up to a few months ago, She would get on the floor to play with them. When they came for a visit, it was playtime with GG.
She was always curious with her surroundings. On Sunday drives, she was always so excited to look everywhere to see and comment on what was going on around her.

She was a mother to
2 Daughters
2 Sons
2 Step sons
16 Grand kids
and ? Great Grand kids ( we are still counting)

During World War 2, Mom worked in a factory making parachutes for the war effort. After moving to Winnipeg, she worked for the Niakwa Pizza Commissary preparing all the ingredients to send out to their restaurants.

She and Dad first lived in Winnipeg on Pembina Highway (where Bishop Grandon is.now, Maple Grove park before it was a park, St Norbert, 3 different locations (One very near the Trapist Monastery) where Dad would walk over to buy cheese. A short time in East Kildonan on Winterton Ave, Red River Drive, and 507 St.Johns ave, We all have memories of 1019 McMillan. It was there that they that they had a boarding house.

Mom had an inner glow that affected everyone that knew her. When you saw her smile at you, you knew it was from her heart. She loved everyone. She welcomed all of our friends. Many of them years later, attended her 100th birthday celebration.

Mom was also very adventurous. On her 80th birthday, she went up in a Hot Air Balloon. Also, on her wish list was Skydiving. She changed her mind when she found out that she couldn’t wear her glasses.

Mom didn’t like being the centre of attention, she would always avoid the spotlight (she left that for Dad).

MOM:. Tell dad what a GOOD job you both did raising us.

In lieu of flowers Please give someone you love a hug
