JULIE-ANNE PETRIEW
DECEMBER 8, 1945 – JANUARY 30, 2022

Peacefully, after a brief and courageous battle with cancer and other illnesses; It is with deep sadness and growing heartbreak that we announce the death of Julie-Anne Marie Petriew. Our beloved mother passed away on Sunday, January 30, 2022, at 10:34 a.m. surrounded by her family. Julie-Anne passed away at the Health Sciences Center at the very young age of seventy-six years.

She was born in St.Boniface on Saturday, December 8, 1945. Julie-Anne resided in Garden City in Winnipeg in what she called her “sanctuary”. Our mother was a minimalist, but she decorated her apartment in a very efficient manner that reflected her lifestyle.

Julie-Anne leaves behind her three children, David Fischer and his partner, Shaundra Boneham, Danny Fischer and his wife, Patricia Fischer and Donna Mackay, two sisters, Diane Petriew and Jean Wiersema, her brother, John; her grandsons, Alexander Fischer and Jonathon Fischer, her granddaughters, Stacey Ropos, Krystal Mackay and Ava Boneham; her great grandchildren DeMario Ropos, Jax Ropos and Avery Ropos; nieces, Lori Petriew, Kim Petriew, nephews, Johnnie Petriew and Chris Petriew, and her best friend in the entire world, Elaine.

Julie-Anne Marie Petriew is predeceased by her sister, Doreen, who she missed with all her heart and who she is with now. Julie-Anne’s heart was broken when Doreen passed away and would speak about her every day. Julie-Anne kept finding dimes every day in her travels and she believed that these were signs of an angel that Doreen was sending her and letting her know that she is still there in her heart.

She travelled to such incredible places like Costa Rica and Mexico with her son, David, Shaundra and Ava. They had such fun times being together, shopping, being on the beach and enjoying life as a family. Julie-Anne and her son, Danny, would visit thrift stores daily to look for those hidden treasures…and she always found them. Julie-Anne and Danny would always visit garage sales and yard sales in the summer, and these were no different for her. She always managed to find her “gold” as she knew a lot about so many different items. She was an extremely frugal person, and as her daughter-in-law would say, she could rub two nickels together and make a quarter out of them.

Julie-Anne and her daughter, Donna would not always get along, but Julie-Anne still loved her and believed that one day they could be family again. Julie-Anne worked for Versatile Tractor manufacturing and Addictions Foundation of Manitoba.

As per her instructions, her body will be cremated and there will be no service or memorial. Her ashes will be scattered in locations where she and her family were happy and where she believed that her spirit will be happy and rest in peace.

I would like to extend a special thank you to the aides, nurses and doctors at the Health Sciences Center and the Seven Oaks Hospital who took incredible care of her and were very compassionate. She did not like being in the hospitals, but she said that the staff at these two hospitals made her happy, took great care of her and made her last days comfortable.

Flowers will not be accepted, and we ask that any donations be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
