On Saturday, February 18, 2017, Kathy passed away at the Health Sciences Centre, at the age of 65 years, after a period of declining health. Remaining to cherish Kathy’s memory are her sisters Laura (Dan) and Joanne (Ralph); former husband, Karl Pohl; nephews John (Lily), Joseph (Sara) and Michael; her children Kathleen, Krista (Kristjan) and Richard as well as her grandchild, Desmond. She was predeceased by her parents, Gladys Olecka and John Blue; stepfather Henry Olecka; her former husband Henry Funk and her husband Chris Bales. Kathy was born and raised in Winnipeg. Here, she brought three children into the world; Kathleen (with Henry Funk), Krista and Richard (with Karl Pohl). She later moved to Gladstone to be with her greatest love, Chris Bales. After becoming a widow, the arrival of her grandson Desmond brought much joy to her later years. Kathy will be remembered for her honesty, her selflessness and her kind heart. She had a unique gift to see the best in others and had the ability to make anyone feel welcome in her presence. We were fortunate to learn many valuable lessons from Kathy during her 65 years, among them; how to stretch a dollar, to always send a thank-you card and to never arrive empty-handed at a gathering. In compliance with Kathy’s wishes, a private family celebration of life will be held. The family would like to thank the staff at Douglas Campbell Lodge and Health Sciences Centre GA3 for their care.
