KATHERINE KIRK

April 6, 2014

KATHERINE ANIE (KATIE) KIRK (nee MORALEVITZ) Peacefully on Sunday, April 6, 2014 our beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother passed away at Tuxedo Villa Personal Care Home at the age of 94 years. Katie will be lovingly remembered by her husband William of 71 years; daughter Beverley (Thomas) Rhoades; granddaughter Shannon (Ronald) Roberts and Shelly Rhoades; great-granddaughters Kathryn Roberts, Kyrstyn Roberts, Paige Hall; great-grandson Spencer Hall; brother Steven (Elsie) Moralewich; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her infant son William Kirk, Jr.; parents Steven and Antoniette Moralevitz; brothers Laurence Moralek and Cornelius Nelson; sisters Lena Tarko, Pauline Plohowski, Nellie Koitowich, Jessie Siweck, Mary Rogowski and Steffie Brock. Some of Katie’s passions were cooking and a love of family; her family dinners were legendary. As the nanny to her grandchildren she instilled her unselfish and humble code of values by example, and always put the well being of everyone else before her own needs. Her beautiful and radiant smile was a magnet and a joy to all who came in contact with her. Katie loved vacationing with her husband and especially touring by car. They crisscrossed North America numerous times from Prince Edward Island to Vancouver Island and from Miami to Alaska. Las Vegas, Reno, Carson City, Laughlin and Council Bluffs were her favourite casino stops and her eyes sparkled when she found a penny machine to play. Katie shared and nurtured her love of her extended family and leaves us with a heavy hearts but with the knowledge that she was the mortar that kept our family loving and together, caring and supportive of each other. Her gentle soul will be in our hearts and minds forever. In keeping with Katie’s wishes, a private family service will be held at a later date with her Interment being held in Brookside Cemetery, 3001 Notre Dame Avenue. The family would like to thank the staff of Tuxedo Villa Personal Care Home for their kind and compassionate care of our nanny. In lieu of flowers, a donation to a charity of your choice may be made in Katie’s memory. Wojcik’s Funeral Chapel & Crematorium, 2157 Portage Avenue, 204- 897- 4665, is in care of arrangements. wojciksfuneralchapel.com.   As published in the Winnipeg Free Press on April 12, 2014
