I met Larry in the 80's and he quickly became my favorite teacher and mentor. He helped me with everything in my life. Later in life I ran into him again and it was like we didn't miss a day of seeing each other. He and I stayed good friends and always kept in touch when I was moving all over the place. He was the most positive person in my life. Even my kids loved him to pieces. So many things I could say but mostly... I will always miss ya bud.. Rest well my friend and thank you for years of your friendship.

I'm deeply saddened for this heart-breaking loss. He helped me to reinvigorate my art and drawing skills in Art class, back at Maples. He was a funny, energetic, positive and charismatic teacher. I've really enjoyed working with a caring and passionate person such as him and I don't think there is anyone that can replace those traits like him. May you find peace and happiness, my friend. Thank You.

Larry introduced both of us to the love of art. We both attended art classes with him, which turned out to be an evening of fun with Larry at the helm. Life won't be the same without him but we know he is partying with Dad, Keith and Joanne. God Bless little brother.

I was an Art student of Mr.Bartley's from Maples Collegiate more than 10 years ago. I will always remember him as the goofy highschool art teacher. But more importantly, I will remember him for how passionate he was about art and his students. Mr. Bartley went over and beyond his duties as a teacher, with words of encouragement to follow our dreams and even being the driving force in helping us obtain them. He was one of the reasons why I still continue being an artist. It deeply saddens me that he has passed away, but hearing how much of an impact he's made on so many individuals puts a smile to my face knowing that he was admired, loved and will continually be remembered as a remarkable person 🙂

Candles have been lit in his memory and prayers said for all of you.I only met Larry at my brother George's graduation in New Haven, Connecticut. His smile and sense of humour was infectious.Today, he's sharing stories of his life's journey with my mother and she is smiling.Wayne

I knew Larry when he was just a lad. It is truly humbling to read all of the sincere tributes on this wall. I regret not having the privilege of knowing the man he became. I send my love and condolences to Aunt Flo, Shar, and Dan as well as his wife. May there be comfort in knowing he now rests in peace.

I met Larry in the late 80s when we played summer hockey together. I've read many comments about him being full of zest, highly energetic, and possessing a great big smile! Boy, that describes him perfectly, which is why he was known on our team as Larry 'at the gate'!! He always had funny stories in the dressing room and was a big part of our winning team. It seems like such a short time ago. My sincerest condolences to his family, he was a real friend.

Mr. Bartley was my art teacher for four years at Maples Collegiate and I will never forget the impact he had on my high school life. He inspired me to an extent no other teacher has ever been able to reach and I am deeply sorry I never got to see him one last time. No one has ever believed in my art more than Mr. Bartley and for that I am truly grateful to have known him. My heartfelt condolences go out to his friends, colleagues, and family (especially Lucille).

We got to know Larry through his brother Keith when he was living in Fisher Branch. Larry was such a down to earth person who truly cared about others. When a special memorial service was held at Hodgson to honour the good work his brother did as a Natural Resource Officer, Larry showed true compassion and spoke very well on behalf of the family. His gifts of teachings to art world will be missed. I know he is probably enjoying a family moment with Keith and Del. Our prayers are for your family.

Our family moved to Winnipeg in 1966 and were fortunate to have the Bartleys as next-door neighbours on Kirkfield Street. I have fond memories of countless football games played with the Bartley boys on the front lawn of Lincoln School. Larry loved to be quarterback! I will remember Larry's enthusiasm and great stories, his zest for life, and his love of his family. Larry had a gift for making people feel welcome. My heartfelt condolences to his family.

Our Dear Friend Larry,Words cannot express the pain we are feeling. You were always the center of attention at our outings. In planning these gatherings, the boys would always ask 'is Larry coming'? Your passing has left a void that can never be filled. You taught us how to laugh but more importantly how to live.Your courage, determination and zest for life, both in illnes and in health will forever inspire us.We trust you are resting comfortably in the big Clubhouse in the sky and look forward to seeing you again on the other side of life (Please book a tee time...'I'm coming after you'!).Love you forever my friend...Lucille and Family,Please take comfort in knowing we share your pain and walk along side you on the path of healing.Larry repeatedly expressed how your impassioned love and support allowed him to persevere. From the bottom of our hearts we thank you all.God Bless.

My daughters (Renee & Danielle)... We talked about our intro to Larry.. As my husband said Bess got loose and Larry was chasing her down. A few days later Larry came to visit. Our girls and their cousins were in the kiddy pool. Larry opened the gate and Bess came screening in to get in the pool. Kids scattered in all directions!!! Never a dull moment with Larry... We will love him forever. Grant, Wanda (he always called me Wicked Wanda or Wicked), Renee and Danielle

Larry and I met in our terrible twenties. We were roomates. We played hockey, golf and shared lots of fun times together. Larry was larger than life and would brighten up any place he was with his big easy smile and infectious laugh. He was a people person and would give anyone the shirt off his back. We stayed close friends even when I left Winnipeg, something Larry could not understand. He loved Winnipeg and would never leave. He told me that meeting Lucille was the best thing that ever happened to him, we all agree. I will miss you Larry.Love Cam

Larry was one of our favorite customers who became much more than a customer but a beloved friend to us all. I would hear someone yell out 'Janeen...Larry is here' and everyone would run out to laugh and joke around with him. He was excited when I took him golfing to Niakwa Golf Course as he had never golfed there before. Anja told him he missed his calling, as he had such a great radio voice so he would phone up and say '92 City FM calling!' We will miss him dearly. Our sincere sympathy and love to all of his family and friends and mostly to Lucille whom he proudly spoke so highly of.

You helped me with how to make my art work better and i loved the little talks we had about the randomest things we would talk about, when you raised your voice at us not because you were mad at us but because you were excited, the dance parties we would have in the class with the radio on and you and your crazy funky dance moves. I can say so much more about you, you are and always will be an amazing person, Love you always and forever Mr.Bartley! <3

Our love and prayers are with Lucille and the Bartley family at this sad time. Our very fond memories of our times with Larry are so healing. Right from the times when Larry and his family came to visit us on the farm when we were all kids, to the great hunting trips, to the beautiful weekend when Larry and Lucille tied the knot, to the golf games (Larry was so kind and patient with us!!), to the white water rafting and to just having Larry as a real friend. There is no doubt in our minds that Larry will be celebrating in heaven with his family and getting a golf game or a hockey game organized. We love you 'cuz'! After such a courageous battle, you more than deserve to rest in peace. Ron & Miriam Nichol

Larry was one of the most genuine men that I have had the pleasure to meet. He had an open and accepting nature and an easy presence. I only knew Larry for a short time but his love and kindness is what comes to mind when I think of him. I also loved his artistic talents and ability to connect to his free child. I also loved the way he loved Lucille, tender and sweet and not afraid to show his love. He was an inspiration to all. His spirit honors us all.

Larry and I worked together at Maples Collegiate for 7 years. He was an inspiration to his students. She and the group of young people had a memorable summer working with Larry! He was a gift... I will miss you Larry...My sincerest condolences to you Lucile and family.Carrie Chick.

I've known Larry all of my life. He was a teacher from about 1963 when he taught me how to tie my shoes. Maybe I was one of his first pupils. Larry had a gift for not only teaching but also for making us laugh. Anyone that ever had the privilege of knowing him could not escape his humour. He also cared deeply for his family and friends. During the flood in May 2011, Larry had just completed chemotherapy. He came out to Delta on Lake Manitoba to sandbag. Even in his weakened state he found strength to help his friend. That was Larry Bartley, true friend, teacher and most of all loving husband. There will be a new star in the Manitoba night sky, Bye for now my friend.
